Purchased a portrait of my husband and I celebrating our 1st home purchase with an antique house key (plus our little kitty baby - we love her to pieces). Tracie was a breeze to chat with to sort out the specifics (she didn't mind that I had a million +1 photos to share for likeness, nor that I had plenty of my own ideas). Her artistic style is so unique and beautiful, can't wait to fancy frame this piece for our mantel!!!

About

Hand-drawn custom portraits & quirky gifts

I've always loved drawing people. I noticed from an early age how artwork can actually bring a smile to someone's face, and that giving a heartfelt gift can build a deeper connection between people. This felt very powerful to me. This concept became the core of my artwork.

Over the years, as friends and family got married, had babies, graduated or retired, I would make a portrait for them to commemorate that time and to let them know I was there for them during these times of big transition. So as I planned to make my living as an artist, I knew portraits and gift-giving would play a role.

When I started my shop, I don’t think it occurred to me how special a job I had created for myself, though. I get to read your stories, see your personalities come through in candid photos, hear about your favorite outfits, meaning in your tattoos and how proud you are of your family and friends! Often times I know you are having a baby before the majority of your friends know, or I know that you are proposing to your girlfriend before she does! Sometimes I know your beloved dog or cat has recently passed away. I know who has mentored you and how someone went above and beyond in helping you through a hard time. I get to hear about what you love most about the people and pets in your life and celebrate that.

Drawing your portraits brings the best parts of humanity into my studio every day. You all inspire me.

what I care about and am inspired by:

1. People and the things that make them, *them.*
I’m most inspired by people's quirks, passions and the accomplishments that make them proud.

2. Tradition and celebration as a way to mark life’s transitions.
I want to help you capture a memory and create a new heirloom. I care about commemorating rights of passage, unions, big events, beginnings and ends (graduations, weddings and commitments, baby showers, new jobs, retirement…)

3. Connections between people (and pets) who bring out the best in each other.
This can include friends, coworkers, teams, mentors, couples, siblings, parents and families. It can also include the people that make your life better in small ways: your bus driver, mail carrier, hairdresser…

4. Giving good gifts.
A good gift is personal, memorable, and highlights what you most love about the person you are giving it to.

5. Collaborative art processes.
I want to listen to your story and make sure it comes to life in the portrait. And then, when it arrives in your mailbox and you open it up, I want you to smile.

I am excited to hear from you about the people you love and why you love them.

…………………………………………………………………………...

a few notes about my style:

Some elements that you should expect
1. Weird nubbin-like hands and bare feet. Funny fingers and toes.
2. Tiny eyes
3. Sometimes big toothy grins
4. Funny little boobs
5. Awkward body-shapes and poses
6. Small and intimate sizes
7. Heirloom quality materials

My goal isn't to capture exact physical qualities of the person, but to depict a larger sense of who the person is. Because of this style, sometimes it just doesn’t feel right to highlight certain features, such as eye-color, special shoes or incredible grace of movement.

Thanks so much for looking around my shop. I hope to hear from you and draw you or someone you love!

I care about the intersection of art and people. My art tells a story, makes someone smile, deepens a connection, and marks important events. I received a BFA from Pratt Institute & an MA in Community Art from Maryland Institute College of Art.

Payment
For custom orders: I begin creating the drawing after receipt of payment and photos.

Cancellations cannot be made after I have started your order.
Shipping
I ship all orders first class USPS. It is is the cheapest and least resource-intensive option. This can take up to 5 days for deliveries in the U.S., and between 2-6 weeks for deliveries to other countries. Tracking and guaranteed arrival dates are not available with this shipping option.

Need a faster turnaround, a guaranteed date of arrival or tracking? Shipping upgrades are available at check out. I'm happy to accommodate your needs. If possible I'll finish your drawing sooner, and recommend other shipping options to fit your needs. Shipping costs will be adjusted accordingly.

All 6 x 6" and 8 x 8" drawings are shipped in a clear cellophane sleeve, backed with chipboard to protect them from bending. Custom sizes are shipped carefully wrapped in paper in a rigid mailer.

International Shipping: Each country has its own rules and rates for import tax. Import taxes are charged by your country and are the responsibility of the buyer to be aware of and pay. These fees are generally based on the value of goods you have ordered. The fee threshold for many countries is higher than the cost of a typical portrait (meaning you would not be subject to an import fee), though some countries have a particularly low threshold. For instance, the U.K. charges an import tax for items starting at $25 while Australia begins charging an import fee at $1000.

For orders to the U.K. please refer to Royal Mail Policies here: http://www.royalmail.com/personal/help-and-support/Ive-received-a-card-asking-for-a-payment

Refunds and Exchanges
Due to the custom nature of the work, all purchases are final. I want you to love your portrait, so if you are not satisfied please let me know and I'll do my best to fix the issue.
Additional policies and FAQs
My typical turnaround time is 2-4 weeks. If you are on a tighter deadline, let me know - I can often work with it.

Due to the nature of the materials I use, I do not typically send a draft or accept changes once I've started the drawing. (1. The initial sketch I do is very light and doesn't have much detail, 2. once I begin with the color it's nearly impossible to change, and 3. I do it all in one sitting.) This keeps costs down and the turnaround time as quick as possible. Plus I love the idea of a total surprise arriving in the mail! So, I love to spend time messaging with you before I start to make sure I understand what you are hoping for. Make sure to explain anything particular when you send photos. Sending a range of photos, some in natural lighting, is very helpful.

Curious how I make a portrait? Check out a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IugGeFAtwYY

If you want to see the initial sketch or the final drawing before I mail it and have the ability to request changes: I send photos at no charge. For each photo sent, 2 days will be added on to the initial deadline from the date of your reply. Each round of changes that requires starting the drawing over is an additional fee of half the initial price paid for the portrait. (If you paid $70 for your portrait, a change would be $35.) I'll create an additional Etsy listing for you as needed.
