A vintage state of mind!

I have always been passionate about vintage and retro items, accessories, old films, TV series, books and things for the home. I started selling at vintage fairs and then progressed to Etsy. I now have an antiques and collectibles shop in the town where I live. Having numerous retail outlets can be hard work although of course I love every minute. You really have to keep your finger on the pulse and know what is trending etc and keep looking, looking, looking all the time for new things. I love unusual and quirky things so that makes it even more of a challenge.
Keeping up with the demand is also challenging. During the winter months I have to go into reverse vampire mode and get my item photos done before the sun sets! I list my items while I am in the shop and package any purchases when I return home. Busy, busy, busy but great fun!

*BUYER REFUNDS AND CANCELLATIONS - EU DISTANCE SELLING:
Under current EU Law you have the right to change your mind about purchasing an item. Specifically, this means that you have decided not to go ahead with the purchase of a particular item due to personal choice, NOT that you have failed to read the description properly. Returns CAN be difficult especially during a pandemic so please, where possible, ensure that you really want the item you are ordering.
The process for returns is as follows:
*The buyer must contact the seller within 14 days of receipt of the item.
*The buyer pays return postage costs. If the item is already on its way when the buyer cancels the order, the buyer is still responsible for the return postage costs. There are no prepaid labels so please use either Royal Mail or courier services.
*Information will be given to buyers about how to proceed, including timelines, packaging, and postage.
*The item must be returned to the shop in exactly the same condition as when it was sent, together with all original packaging intact.
*Costs incurred due to the buyer omitting any part of the above process will be DEDUCTED from any refund.
*Once the seller has received the item and is satisfied, a refund will be given. No refunds are given for purchases which return damaged or are lost in transit as this is the buyer's overall responsibility. You are advised to send the return by tracked mail whether it be Royal Mail or courier.

*BUYER REFUNDS- OTHER:
Refunds for any other reason are not upheld unless you can show that the listing for the item is grossly inaccurate or has gross omissions.

*SELLER CANCELLING AN ORDER:
As a seller I will directly CANCEL an order where:
*There are problems with the given postal address either on Etsy profile or when courier delivery is attempted (after the parcel is returned to us).
*A vintage item becomes unsaleable prior to posting, including buyer errors in ordering items correctly
*There are general communication issues between buyer and seller.
*An attempt is made to purchase an item clearly reserved for another buyer.

*RESERVING ITEMS AND DISCOUNT:
I can only reserve items for 24 hrs. and I operate a no-discounts policy due to costs.

*ABUSIVE OR SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOUR:
I report to Etsy, immediately, any suspicious activity, abusive behaviour or other occurrence experienced by me as a shop owner.
Payment
HoptroffsBazaar accepts credit cards, Paypal and Etsy Gift Vouchers. Payment will appear as "Vintagedesi" on your statements, which refers to our business name.
Shipping
*COURIER DISPATCH, DELIVERY TIMELINES, COSTS AND CORONAVIRUS:
Apologies but we can only deliver within the UK at this present time.
We use Hermes courier service only. Our dispatch is usually within 24 hours. Courier services may delay your goods. Hermes aims to deliver within 4-5 working days but may be much slower. It is not the responsibility of HoptroffsBazaar if parcels are delayed. Please remember that we are in the midst of a pandemic so allow for delivery services being disrupted. All parcels are collected by Hermes daily (Mon-Sat). All parcels are fully tracked, and require a non-touch "signature" on delivery. Our items come from one operative in one designated dispatch area. The area is smoke and pet free, and to the best of our knowledge, coronavirus free. You are advised to handle delivered parcels with care as we are not responsible for persons who have handled the outer packaging.

HALLOWEEN AND CHRISTMAS: please order your items in good time due to possible delays. Watch this space for cut-off delivery dates. Thank you.

*COURIER COSTS, COMBINING COSTS, and REFUNDS:
Official Hermes guidelines are used to determine the cheapest tracked and insured cost for that weight and size of parcel. You can check these online. Occasionally your parcel will require extra packaging and this is reflected in the overall courier cost. Any differences in costs are refunded in whole GBPs only (where applicable). Combined costs on multiple items is often available depending on overall parcel weight and size. Please enquire before you buy.

*DELAYED AND LOST PARCELS:
Any delays with courier services are the responsibility of Hermes as the named courier. Buyers should use their barcode reference to check the progress of their parcel. Please note that under the Consumer Rights Act the seller is responsible for your goods until you receive them so we will step in to help. However, you must wait until Hermes declares the parcel is missing/lost before we can take any action other than enquiry. This can take considerable time and we cannot make enquiries until at least 7 days after the delivery time that Hermes state in their policies. Parcels often turn up so we cannot take any further action while we can still see on the Hermes tracking information page that your parcel is in transit. At present Hermes has NO contact point regarding individual queries, so please be patient.

*DAMAGED PURCHASES:
The buyer must provide 2 CLEAR photo images of the damage sustained during the courier journey/delivery, to be emailed to us within 14 days of receipt of your purchase.
Additional policies and FAQs
DEFINITIONS for words used to describe items in this shop:

*A VINTAGE item as described here is an original vintage item of 20 years plus, to the best of our knowledge, or as close as we can get through extensive research. This is in accordance with Etsy protocol. All vintage items show signs of age and wear and will be generally SAFE due to close inspection. Items are NOT subject to rigorous FORMAL SAFETY INSPECTIONS as new goods would be in a factory, for example. Buyers must be aware that vintage items are OLD and USED and will therefore not have the robust nature they once had, and it is possible that their lifespan/general condition after sale will be shorter than with new items.

"MINT" vintage condition: so good that it is near-perfect, although it is still a vintage item and the aforementioned information about age and wear still apply.

"LOVELY" vintage condition: minimal or mild wear and is in an overall pleasing condition with no major flaws, odours or similar.

"FAIR" or "SHABBY" vintage condition (or having "seen some wear"): some moderate to major issues associated with age and prior use for eg., notably worn/component missing.

The information received with an order is used purely for shipping your parcel(s). A record of a transaction is kept by Etsy, and/or Paypal for example, and may be accessed for tax purposes by us at the end of a financial year, but your bank account/card/personal details are not used in this process. Your details are not kept by us personally on any device, or by handwritten means. Details from a transaction on Etsy are not used in any way other than for the initial shipping service of your purchased items. We do not pass on your details nor do we sell them, or utilise them in any other way than described above. Gift wrapping and packaging

All of my items are safely packaged and posted in strong boxes. Jewellery is gift-boxed. A gift-wrapping service is available at extra cost at checkout.

Sizing details

Each listing gives the approximate size of the item. Check all sizes carefully by reading the FULL listing, as close-up images make things look larger than they actually are. I cannot take returns if you have not read the listing fully. Something else to take into consideration is that device screens differ in their ability to give a true colour, please enquire if you are unsure of the exact colour of your chosen item.

Care instructions

Vintage items will usually reach you in an uncleaned state. Harsh chemicals and even plain water can harm your items. Mostly, brass and copper, glass, crockery and plastic are able to be cleaned and great care must be taken regarding the amount of force you use! For all items, use a non-abrasive cloth, clear water with a minimum of hand soap or washing up liquid, wipe gently starting with a test area, and dry carefully. Proprietary brass and copper cleaners are usually ok but again test carefully. Never attempt to clean Christmas baubles as you will remove the paint. Crockery should not be immersed in hot water. Keep items out of direct sunlight/bright light to prevent fading and surface disruption.
