Petticoat Jane for genuine vintage clothes, vintage patterns and quality handmade vintage inspired clothes with friendly service

Petticoat Jane started with a winter coat and a cotton nightgown!
When I could not find a winter coat that I liked in the shops, I decided to make one. My friends loved my coat and reckoned I could sell coats like these and when strangers stopped me to ask where I got my coat from I started to think that maybe they had a point. What of the Nightgown? Well, when I had to go into hospital I made myself a pretty embroidered cotton nightie and peignoir to help me to feel positive and it worked. So when I opened my Etsy shop; Petticoat Jane Vintage, it was one of the first items I listed.

I have been sewing as long as I can remember having learnt at my mother’s knee as they say. I love vintage style and quality. It inspires me to make retro clothes using my massive vintage pattern collection and fashion history books under my Petticoat Jane label. I source vintage fabrics and notions for my designs, which make them unique one-offs and by using vintage fabrics I am recycling and re-using. I take pride in my work, ensuring that all my clothes have generous seam allowances and are hand finished for quality.

What about the vintage clothes & patterns?
I have always loved vintage fashion and have a small collection of vintage clothes of my own and a large collection of vintage patterns. The style and quality of of clothes from yesteryear, I find irresistible. My favorite era's are 1920's and 1950's.

Petticoat Jane sells one off quality handmade vintage inspired fashion alongside genuine vintage clothes and patterns.

Were you wondering how I chose my shop name?
It is a play on my name, Jane and was inspired by my grandma's stories of her aunt who ran a second hand clothes stall in London and helped out my great grandma by sending clothes for her 13 children and so Petticoat Jane was born.

One of my first customers left me a wonderful review when she said “Oh, this peignoir is absolutely, gloriously beautiful! Thank you for such amazing craftsmanship! The sewing is perfect! I cannot thank you enough for this stunning creation!”
When I read her feedback, I knew that I have achieved my aim to make quality clothes that make people feel special.

My daughter has joined me, making and selling her unique young fashion designs under her FrannB Designs label. She wanted to make some money to support herself through university.

Protecting our environment is also important to me, so I like to re-cycle and re-use where I can. As well as using vintage patterns, vintage fabrics and vintage notions in my designs, I re-use and recycle packaging, boxes and envelopes to post items to my customers and would encourage everyone to do the same.

My aim is to gradually build up my business first through my Etsy shops, local vintage fairs and most recently by opening my own online shop. One day I hope to achieve my ultimate goal of opening a vintage shop on the high street.
A girl can dream!

Obviously vintage clothes are old, pre-loved and have history. Some have flaws gained as they travelled through time, which in most cases add to the visual interest, but if you are looking for perfection you probably won’t find that here in my shop unless otherwise indicated. Nb. Condition issues are reflected in the price. I look over every garment I sell and list any flaws I find, but I am only human and might, on the rare occasion, miss something. If this is the case, please contact me before leaving feedback, so we can come to a compromise. Once you are happy, please leave feedback to let others know about your shopping experince with petticoat Jane Vintage! I will happily do the same, and doesn't it feel good to hear nice things about yourself?
