ABOUT
Gretchen Burneko is an artist, illustrator and designer living and working in Long Beach, CA. Her journey began growing up in Duxbury, MA where a strong art program in her school provided a foundation which she built up under the guidance and tutelage of Bettina M. Lesieur, a painter still active in Duxbury. After earning a degree in Visual Anthropology from the University of Southern California, Gretchen took a break from regularly creating art for more than a decade. In June of 2013, she made the life-changing decision to pursue a more creative life and has since been dedicating herself to many creative endeavors, including visual art and fashion. Gretchen is primarily an illustrator, but also creates works of art purely for their own sake. She works in watercolor, gouache, pen and ink, charcoal, pastels, conte pencil, acrylic and more recently has begun making digital art.

INSPIRATIONS
Gretchen is deeply inspired by all things whimsical. Long flowing hair and fairy lights, the moon and stars and and the sea. She is especially fond of the dichotomy of color and subject matter in Latin American art, and the graphic balance of early graphic designers such as Klimt and Mucha. Gretchen is equally fascinated by dreams and nightmares; that balance of both light and dark subjects comes through in her work. Thus, she utilizes a wide variety of media and styles in her work.
