Raising Icelandic sheep near Mt Rainier in Washington

I raise a flock of 30+ (more when lambs are in town) Icelandic sheep in Eatonville, WA. At the base of Mt Rainier, on volcanic soils and old glaciomarine deposits, the sheep have access to excellent, nutrient dense pasture.

Icelandic sheep are pretty special--as a heritage breed, they are closer to "wild" sheep then more domesticated breeds. They are tough animals, weathering all sorts of climates and able to work together to defend and protect themselves. Icelandics produce excellent wool--which consists of a top and bottom coat. Fall fleeces are typically for sale, as spring fleeces tend to be gummed up with too much organic matter from winter.

The sheep are part of an integrated farm system, along with chickens, fruit trees, and continued work to build soil for perennial crops. Inquire about sheep skin rugs and other products, which will also appear in this shop!
