Pitch Pine Pottery

Pitch Pine Pottery began in late 2015 in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts. The small company is run by a husband and wife artist duo in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Matt and Tara met in high school, and have long been friends. They found themselves both pursuing careers in functional arts in college. Matthew went on to complete a four year apprenticeship under a master blacksmith after several years of self taught blacksmithing. Tara received her BA with a concentration in Ceramic Arts, along with minor degrees in Art History and English. After college she also apprenticed under a master potter, and worked in historical ceramic reproduction.

Our desire is to bring art with form and function into every home. We feel strongly that life often imitates art and seek to inspire and be inspired by the world around us.

Frequently asked questions
Shipping Details

We use recycled, local materials, and USPS priority mail boxes to keep shipping costs low for you, and no handling fee. The shipping cost estimated at checkout for you by Etsy is what the USPS charges to have the specific weight and size of your item shipped to your door. Ceramic items are fragile, require lots of packaging and are sometimes heavy, which is why it can cost more than your average postage. There is no way around this fact unfortunately, but we do our absolute best to ensure your item arrives safely, and at the lowest cost to ship!

Buyer is responsible for any custom fees. UK orders often must pay custom for release of their items. We cannot be held responsible for these dues, nor can we falsify the customs form

Breakage During Shipment

We do our absolute best to package each item safely. However, ceramic is incredibly fragile. Unfortunately, once it leaves our home it is out of our hands.

If you are gifting an item, please open the package immediately to ensure safe delivery. Inspect your item carefully. We will not refund due to breakages if you fail to notify us of a breakage within 7 days of delivery.
If an item arrives broken, don't panic! Simply contact us first on Etsy with photos, before leaving feedback. We can assist with filing a claim with USPS, as a breakage through the postal service is the responsibility of USPS.

Lost or Stolen Packages

Once your order leaves our hands and begins its journey through the mail, USPS is responsible for it’s safe delivery. Lost and stolen packages are rare, but happen occasionally. If your tracking states that your item has been delivered, but is not at your residence, please double check your shipping address first. Contact your local post office with your tracking. Pitch Pine Pottery does not refund stolen packages. If your tracking states the item is still in transit after 5-7 business days after it’s scheduled delivery, please check with your local PO. They offer full refunds for lost items, and it is your responsibility as the buyer to notify USPS of the lost packages. Pitch Pine will not refund for lost or stolen items.

Care instructions

All pottery is hand-made with lead free, food safe materials. All are microwave and dishwasher safe unless otherwise noted. Hand washing is always best, and will ensure a long life for your new wares. Avoid thermal shock by avoiding extreme temperature changes, ie the freezer and boiling temperatures. Room temperature, hot beverages, and mild refrigerator temps are fine.

Pitch Pine Pottery will not refund for any breakage once the item is in your possession. This excludes breakages during shipment only. PitchPinePottery is not responsible for any resulted injury due to
normal or misuse of pottery

Refunds and Exchanges

With the exception of shipping breakages, we do not accept refunds or exchanges. Please check all listing photos before purchasing and read the description thoroughly. You are buying handmade, there will be variations in shape, and glaze. Color in images may vary from screen to screen. We take our photos in natural light, where the glazes look their best, and do not edit listing photos. No two items will be exactly the same in size, or color.

If your item breaks in the mail, see "Breakages During Shipment" for more details. Ceramic is fragile, take care of your pottery and it will last a lifetime and beyond!

Shipping overages

Multiple orders placed during one restock will be combined, only if they are able to safely fit into one box. If you purchase multiple items, and they are able to ship for less than what you paid, we refund those overages back to you. You will receive the refund at the time of shipment along with your tracking codes. This does not mean, however, that you will only have to pay the cost to ship one item. Multiple ceramic pieces in one box means more packaging, more weight, and higher cost.

We do not offer free or discounted shipping within New Mexico. Please see “Local Pickup” if you’d prefer to pick up your order from our studio.

Custom and personalized orders

Pitch Pine unfortunately does not offer custom or personalized items at this time. Thank you for your understanding.

How do shop restocks work?

We restock our Etsy shop every two weeks with ready to ship items. The exact day and time is always listed in our Instagram bio. You can also sign up for our newsletter on PitchPinePottery.com to receive two emails a month reminding you of these restock dates. Restocks are first come, first serve, no reserves can be made on new items. If you check out multiple times with multiple items during an update, we will combine your orders when possible. Sometimes for the safety or you order, they will be packaged separately.

All material is owned by Pitch Pine Pottery. This material includes, but is not limited to, the design, artwork, images, photographs, and text, and may NOT be copied, reproduced, or distributed without permission. Our images cannot be used without our permission or credit.

Local Pickup

Local orders may be picked up from our Santa Fe studio within two weeks of purchase. Please notify us of your intent to pickup at the time of purchase. Your shipping will be refunded fully once the item has been picked up. Upon failure to retrieve your item within the two weeks after purchase, we will ship your item to you, and no shipping refund will be issued. We do not offer discounted or free shipping to local buyers.
