Always Diving Down To Pick Up On Every Shining Thing

The title is a clue to how I got started in this business- years before I ever sold anything, I was hunting through thrift stores and flea markets for whatever treasures I could glimpse out of the corner of my eye. I've gone on a few collecting jags in my time, too, which has helped provide me with a wealth of knowledge about some of my specialties.
I used to be on eBay. For 14 years. I'm not there any more. I'm one of tens of thousands of eBay sellers who have been purged from eBay in recent years. Banned. Permanently. "One strike and you're out"; no prior warning; no appeal. This is supposedly based on an algorithm; I was informed that I fell 0.2% short of their standard. This was done to me several months before eBay made their public shift to new, algorithm-based "seller performance guidelines.". My old Seller ID on eBay was "paxmart" . I had 1765 positive feedback points and a 100% rating at the time that eBay banned me. In my 14 years there, I received a total of fewer than 10 negatives (some of them deserved.) That's done. Moving on.

SHIPPING: I combine shipping whenever possible, on a case by case basis. Priority Flat Rate boxes can provide a bargain. I also recommend having a look at my selection of briefcases and luggage: with some listings, I have stated a policy that every other item purchased from my store that can safely fit ships FREE. Sometimes a weight restriction, like 10 lb., is also stated.
On all on my listings for single tennis racquets, two ship for the price of one. Three or more ships by total weight.

SPECIAL CATEGORY INFO:

EYEWEAR: Few of my vintage sunglasses are 100% flawless. When they are, I say so, and mean it. Otherwise, I try to go into more detail. My rating system for lens condition:
>10 new condition
>9 a few small marks outside the line of direct vision, or extremely tiny surface marks that aren't visible when worn
>8 a few very small marks in the line of direct vision, visible when worn; or corner scuffs outside of or at the very edge of vision
>7 small scratches and flaws in the line of vision, not overly distracting
> <7 sold for frame only

This assessment is subjective, particularly in grading between 7 and 9- to some extent, visibility of flaws is based on the distance between eye pupils, and that can vary from person to person. Also, some people are fussier than others. I recommend that especially critical buyers only consider sunglasses that I've graded between 9 and 10.
For all of my non-Rx sunglasses with wearable lenses, I try to provide one closeup shot of the sun shining through the lenses from behind on to a white foreground. This highlights any marks on the lenses. It isn't easy to get these shots- I don't have a professional photo studio, and need to rely on full sun conditions and a narrow window of time that shifts from day to day.
I try to be fairly detailed about frame condition, noting any specific flaws. Once again: since most of them are pre-worn, like-new condition is very rare. I don't try to straighten warped frames; that's a job best left to a professional. I recommend paying fairly for an old-school optometrist to do the work. Some types of plastic, such as Optyl, should not be re-formed by anyone but a professional, using special heating equipment. The usual hot-water or hot-sand treatments do not work, and will probably break the frame. Optyl is a great frame plastic, lightweight and translucent, and easily moldable- but only by someone who knows what they're doing. In fact, I don't recommend that anyone even attempt self-adjustment of the fit with any eyeglass frame material other than metal. Even zylonite is tricky.

AUDIO AND SPEAKERS: Typically sold as-is. Sometimes I may provide a testing window. Only on an item with a serial number.
I know what a blown speaker sounds like. I also know what a voice coil rub is. I realize that a flawless cone on a speaker does not mean that it's in good working condition. I realize that rough handling can jar voice coils out of alignment, which is most often not a fixable problem. So I pack all speaker drivers with bubble wrap and foam, and nearly always use fitted boxes or wooden platforms on large speaker drivers like woofers. I always double-box them.
I'm very good at boxing turntables. But I always say that I'll never sell another one. And then I find another bargain to flip.

VINYL RECORDS: I'll be using the Goldmine ratings system. My first few listings will probably be based on surface inspection only. I want to get into pre-auditioning in order to grade them, but that's time consuming, and it will raise the prices. Most of my jazz and R&B is reissues or cut-outs, but my 60s and 70s rock catalog is deep. Some uncommon records there. I recommend buying before I have seller's remorse and pull them.

FISHING GEAR: Long-time freshwater fisherman and collector.

Stay tuned. I always list more goods.

Returns and exchanges
My goods are typically sold as-is. I sell vintage collectibles, in the condition I found them. I do my utmost to examine my items carefully and describe their condition completely and accurately, If you have a particular concern about item features or condition that I haven't mentioned in the listing, please ask questions or request clarifications in advance of purchase.
As a one-person operation who is quite often traveling, dealing in unique secondhand items, I'm not set up to handle returns and refunds as a matter of routine. I also admit to some trepidation about the possibility of being subjected to substitutions by unscrupulous buyers, or damage to fragile items in return shipping due to reckless packing by the buyer.
However, customer satisfaction is very important to me, and buyers dissatisfied with their purchase can communicate their concerns. I might agree to a return for a refund or exchange if the buyer is able to make a strong case for doing so.
I'll accept returns on solid state electronics that arrive "DOA", for example- as long as the sold item has the same serial number that I've included in the listing, and as long as the buyer communicates with me within 3 days of package arrival.

Finally, I'm out to do my utmost to avoid any of this becoming an issue in the first place. Nothing saps the energy of a solo proprietor business like an unresolved dispute with a customer.
Delivery
I combine shipping on request, or as noted. Insurance is typically part of the shipping total seen by the buyer.

I'm presently only set up for sales to U.S. and Canadian customers. I'll consider shipping to some overseas destinations later on, after I get up and running here,

I recommend Greyhound Freight for my heaviest and bulkiest items- if you're able to pick up on your end at a Greyhound station, the savings are typically substantial- perhaps 50% better / $30-$60 in comparison to the cheapest rate for USPS, Fedex, or UPS.

I've set a 3-day deadline for myself in getting packages out the door. I'm often able to ship faster.

If there's a delay beyond three days, I'll notify the buyer. It's typically due to a packing challenge for a fragile item. Please be patient. I take the packing of fragile items for shipment very, very seriously. Some things should never be a rush job. I've been known to re-do packing jobs twice over before I'm satisfied that the goods are safe to mail.

Most of the goods that I sell don't require an additional expense for materials or labor. In the case of particularly large fragile items like electronics, raw speaker drivers, lamps, ceramics, glassware, or appliances, this can entail a $5-$20 materials shipping charge for fitted boxes and bubblewrap.
For a few especially difficult items like turntables/record players, I may factor a $10-$20 labor charge into my shipping price for dealing with the challenges of packing, which can be substantial. I'll be clear about those costs in the listing.
Additional policies and FAQs
I have a stable home base in the mid-Atlantic region, but I also often travel on extended buying expeditions or selling at flea markets, particularly in the summer and fall. In the last year, I've been on excursions from Maine to California, with side trips and stops in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, West Virginia, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, and Nevada. I often travel with some of my more compact inventory, such as eyewear and leather goods. But many of my listings will go dormant when I'm on the road.
As of now, I anticipate that my store will be open for active business and prompt shipment of all of my goods until June.
