This shop is own and operated by me, Kia'i Tallett. I'm 11 years old and I live on a mountain farm on the Big Island of Hawaii. My parents are artists and surfers and we spend a lot of time taking care of our homestead, enjoying the outdoors, and making things in our studio inspired by the ocean and forests that surround us. I also attend a Waldorf School in our local town where I've learned to knit and crochet. Being creative and resourceful is a big part of my life. Pixsea Handmade was founded because I wanted to open a shop to market the jewelry and accessories I make, as well as the jewelry made by my parents.

My dad is a surfboard shaper, and his company is called Manukai Handboards. He had leftover resin collecting on his shop floor, and last Christmas, he carved a ring for my mom out of it. She liked it so much that he made more. And then she started making them too, and I started helping out with ideas of my own. Voila...Kalakoa Designs was born.

Kalakoa means colorful in Hawaiian, and my parents make jewelry inspired by the colors of our island life. They use wood-cutoffs from local craftsmen and resin from my dad's shop, as well as beach driftwood and fallen tree branches gathered on Hamakua Coast of the Big Island. The three of us share a studio on our farm to make work for Pixsea Handmade, Kalakoa Designs, and Manukai Handboards.

I think at some point soon they will have their own webshop, but I will still keep marketing some of their work here even if they do. I am also developing my own line of botanical resin jewelry...so stay tuned!
