Announcement   A PlatyMorph is an invented creature, resembling a platypus, who has the ability to change its appearance at will. It is also the mascot of my shop! I create masks and costume pieces so that others can enjoy the transformative magic that the PlatyMorph represents. If you have any questions or interest in a future commission, just write to me and ask.

Visit www.platymorph.com as well as PlatyMorph's Facebook page www.facebook.com/PlatyMorph for more examples of my work, as well as the 'sold items' section of this shop. I create new items constantly, so watch for shop updates! If a mask you want from my shop has been sold, please send me a message as it is possible that I can re-make it for you. Certain designs have evolved and over time. If there is a mask you would like in a different color than is shown, please communicate with me as I am able to produce variations on current designs.

With years of experience making masks for dancers, theater productions, weddings, Renaissance faire performers, photo shoots, masquerades, cosplayers and costume balls, PlatyMorph masks are made to move! My masks are specifically designed to be comfortable, beautiful, and fun to wear. PlatyMorph competes only with itself to make each mask a functionally magical work of wearable art!

About

Evolve With Imagination ~ PlatyMorph Masks are Passports to Freeing Your Spirits!

I created PlatyMorph so that I could work and grow as an artist and maker of these magical spirit-amplifying devices known as masks! As a sensitive and introverted person, I have always found masks to be protective armor that help me shed timidity and be as bold as the inner life I want to live.

My identity is defined by Art. I drew cartoons before I could clearly verbalize my thoughts and intentions, so Art is my first and most comfortable language! My diverse liberal arts education at St. Mary's College of Maryland included studying biology before switching to a major in art with a concentration in theater. Studying masks and movement at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia and art history in Italy were also pivotal in my development as an artist. My first job after college was an internship at Das Puppenspiel in Westfield, NY, as a performing member of a traveling puppet theater. It was a time where I lived and worked alongside masks and puppets, and found that I was best suited to an Art Life more than any other vocation.

PlatyMorph was officially born when my Etsy shop was opened in March 2012, though I had been building costume masks and headpieces for several years for friends and community theater productions. I created the platypus-based mascot to explain my diverse interest in masks and the metamorphic quality of costume and disguise.

The root of 'mask magic' is defined by the joy of being several different things at once. The PlatyMorph is, at core, the freedom borne from transformation.

Welcome and thank you for visiting PlatyMorph! A PlatyMorph is an invented creature, somewhat like the platypus, with the tendency to change its appearance at will. I work to create items that are lively and promote change in the wearer. I am intrigued with a mask's potential to transform and amplify the energy of those that wear them.

Please note that I create in a smoke-free environment, so your mask will only smell of leather and magic when you receive it. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have about my work and I will do my best to answer you.

All PlatyMorph orders are currently processed securely via PayPal or Direct Checkout via credit card (your choice!). It is very easy to set up a PayPal account if you need to obtain one at www.paypal.com.

Payment is required within three (3) days. I can be flexible if you communicate with me, but if I don't hear anything within three days I will cancel the sale.

Custom Orders: If you purchase a custom order deposit I will put the deposit towards the final cost of your mask. If a completed custom order is then put up for sale as a 'reserved listing', it is reserved for the buyer who purchased the deposit. If the buyer does not purchase the final mask within 30 days, I have the right to re-list the item and open the item for purchase as part of my regular inventory.

***PLEASE NOTE: All orders valued at $200 and above will now be shipped with 'Signature Required on Delivery' for (valid as of 10/29/2014). This option helps to protect your order from delivery issues. If you wish to opt out of the 'signature required on delivery' option, please include mention of this in the 'note to seller' section during check out.

*** Due to the large percentage of missing and damaged packages, I am sorry to say I will no longer be shipping to Mexico. Please understand this is for the health of my business and I truly apologize for any inconvenience. ***

PlatyMorph is NOT responsible for any loss resulting from delivery issues, delays, or errors on the part of the USPS system. Be VERY sure that the address you have on file with Pay Pal and/or your Etsy account is up to date and accurate as I must ship to the address provided on your order receipt. *** If an item is marked as 'delivered' but you have not received the package, I cannot be held liable for lost, stolen, or improperly delivered mail. ***

-- CANADIAN ORDERS -- Due to the nature of Canada Post losing packages at a fairly high rate, I am no longer responsible for any package sent to Canada. If you are ordering from Canada and would prefer Priority International USPS Shipping, which is insured, trackable throughout the entire process and more reliable than normal First Class International USPS Post, please contact me prior to ordering for a price quote.

*** If an item is marked as 'delivered' but you have not received the package, I cannot be held liable for lost, stolen, or improperly delivered mail. ***

PlatyMorph masks are designed to comfortably fit a broad range of head sizes. Additionally, the more a mask is worn, the more it will conform to the wearer.
Additional policies and FAQs
Each mask created at PlatyMorph is handcrafted from vegetable tanned leather. Some variations in texture are to be expected as part of the organic origin of the leather and the mask shaping process.

Helpful Mask Care Hints:

* My masks are dyed and painted leather, coated with a water resistant acrylic sealant. However, the surface can be scratched and/or marred if not treated with care. While this will not harm the structure of the mask, it will detract from its appearance, so treat your mask with respect. Avoid laying it face down on scratchy materials, stomping on your mask or using a belt sander on it.

* If you do not intend to hang it up (when not being worn) please pack your mask securely away, supporting its shape and being especially careful not to warp or squash any sticky-out parts of the design. Whatever shape the mask is stored in is the shape it will adopt. Placing it on a shelf away from direct sunlight and excessive/heat cold is also a safe way to display your mask when you aren't wearing it. But you should wear your mask, even if there isn't a party to go to. Masks like to be used and appreciated, just like the next guy.

* PlatyMorph masks are hand set/sculpted with water. If the mask is re-wetted (i.e. soaked) it will relax back to a flat piece of leather. To prevent this misfortune, do not wear it in the rain. Sweating in your mask to the point that the mask gets totally soaked is also best avoided - so keep this in mind on hot days and air out your mask here and there.

* Your mask does not need to be waxed, oiled, or treated in any way, besides the occasional dusting with a dry cloth or soft bristled brush. Do not vigorously rub the surface of the mask or you may begin to take off some color.

* To hang your mask up, drive two picture hooks, push-pins or nails into the wall slightly less than the distance between where the ribbons/cords on the mask are secured. Then tie the cords/ribbons together and hang it up. A hat stand or mannequin head can also be used to display your mask.
