About

A penchant for the creative process.

Did you ever sit down at a constructed event, your official Dice Masters(TM) playmat shining in your FLGS's flouro lights, and enthusiastically roll a full handfull of dice... right through the prep area and smashing out all the dice in the Used Pile? Only to have your opponent call shenanigans because neither of you can recall which dice were where?

Well, that was it for me. I realised there had to be a better way. Us DM players, we need more room. So, swallowing my complete lack of knowledge, I got at it - I started in Microsoft Paint. I then downloaded Gimp. But stroked text and elegant curves were horrendous.

My gorgeous and supremely helpful wife, a graphic designer by day and genius playmat design teacher by night, saw my earnest efforts to tackle those programs into usefulness and suggested I need the Adobe Suite product range. I haven't looked back.

I'd never used Illustrator or Photoshop before, in any meaningful sense anyway, so this has been a journey of fast discovery for me.. and frankly, it's exciting. Over time I learned about curves and channels and masks and layer groups and adjustment layers and, lately, macro/actions. It's soooo cooool, I can't even convey! It makes this creative process slick and sleek and gleeful :D Love it!

I've made a few base templates now (see the shop pics above), all pre-structured and pre-masked and ready to kick off into any custom design you choose. But if you don't like a template, just suggest something - a change means doing something new, having something new to learn or finding a new, efficient way of doing this .. and I find that one of the most rewarding things in this creative new direction I'm skipping down. So please, just ask!

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalised orders

I love designing personalised mats - but nowadays I just don't have as much time as I'd hoped so it's tricky fitting them in. Send me a message and we can discuss :)

Please note that I'm in GMT+10 (Melbourne, Australia) so it may be a few hours before I respond.

Can you deliver printed mats?

I've found a local (SE Asia) gaming mat printer for cheaper than the popular US shops. Please get in contact and we can discuss options. As an idea from the above supplier, delivery of a physical mat to Australia is usually approx 3-4 weeks, but it's location dependent.
