Kelly created a fabulous flyer for my Summer Reading Program. She was easy and pleasant to work with. She was very patient with my many revisions and she remained professional to ensure my final product met my standards. I will definitely use her services again!

Plentiful Designs helped me recreate myself.

Hi, my name is Kelly Ackerman, and I am the owner of Plentiful Designs. I am a one woman show, but have been blessed with a wonderful husband and family that helps me explore my creativity without judgment. I always get emotional when I explain my story, why and how Plentiful Designs came about but it's important and should be shared. It, just like my shop, is part of the foundation of who I am.

I had the world in my hands 14 years ago, working in New York City at what started as an internship, and soon after turned into a part time job at a graphic design company named MADA Design, Inc. It was great! All of the classes I took at a local community college at the time could never match up to the experience I got on the job there, and for that I am truly grateful to them for allowing me the chance. It would have been nice to stay with them, but after graduating at Bergen Community College with an Associate's Degree in Fine Arts, I went on for my Bachelors in Fine Arts and Education. My parents at the time couldn't see the need for digital art, and pushed me into another passion of mine, teaching. I stuck with art, being my strongest subject and the one that gave me the most satisfaction, watching young minds experiment and grow like I did years ago. After graduating in 2008, and receiving my Certification of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) for K-12, which is basically a license to teach, I found it incredibly difficult for me to find a job.

Within the same year of graduating college, my now husband of almost 7 years, proposed and we were married the next year. Every couple has their dreams, and ours was to become parents. It took a bit, but we were with child that October and excitedly awaited meeting our first addition to our family, Zachary James. Like life, it was not a normal pregnancy. I had nightmare doctors throughout and was looking for a new one by 6 months in. At 8 months (32 weeks) I broke my water getting off of our bed, went into labor and was mishandled all day by all of the doctors including my own at Hackensack Hospital. I won't get into specifics, because it is absolutely awful and unjustified malpractice, but we lost Zachary, and I died with him.

I was gone. Completely. There was nothing I could give to anyone. I experienced the darkness that is depression, rage, sadness, and absolute fear. I never experienced anxiety like that before. It was so potent that I would freeze at simple things that were meant to be funny, happy children, parents, I had to quit the YMCA because I couldn't be around children all together. When they cried, I did, when they were scared to swim, I was scared to hold them, it wrecked me.

When Zachary passed, they wrapped him in a crochet blanket. A nurse cried when she told me that a woman that lost her child, made them for other grieving parents as a way to cope and help other parents going through similar times. I still have his blanket. I slept with it to keep him close to me, and tried to keep me level in times of extreme sadness. I knew then that I needed help.

I started accepting that I couldn't go back. I couldn't change it, and even though we couldn't get a lawyer to give Zachary justice, that I could give him justice every day by working on getting healthier. I learned that I needed to start focusing on bringing myself back into society and the best way that I could think to do it was getting back into art. I had done some art through, to reflect what I was battling with. (If you're interested my personal portfolio can be seen here:

By the end of 2011 I learned about Etsy, and decided that this might be a good way for me to connect with other people, cope with my troubles, and learn how to be this new me. In all honesty, with my loving husband and his understanding that this was something I needed to do, we worked together to set some money aside to start Plentiful Designs.

Plentiful Designs' name came about while designing a friend of mine's logo for her photography business. I liked the modern way that I put her initials together and decided that I wanted Plentiful Designs to be the name of my shop. The PD design next to Plentiful Designs' text, is meant to be a modern twist on the infinity sign up on a diagonal. The reason I decided to go with this name and logo is because I wanted to keep the doors open to what I could do and not be pigeon toed into one medium. The sky is not my limit in terms of my creativity, so I wanted customers to know that they could keep an open mind, and know that they wouldn't be judged based on their unique design ideas. That, "it could happen" could actually happen.

Thank you for reading my story. If you need anything at all, please do not hesitate to ask.
