About PlumandLouie

Welcome to Plum+Louie on Etsy.

Mission Statement:
To inspire the recognition of elegance through authenticity, integrity and connection.

When I look at the jewelry I wear most often, or that I treasure the most, the common factor is a meaningful connection. Whether its significance comes from the giver, the maker, or the design itself; my favorite pieces offer a special attachment. I wanted to create a line of jewelry that can have a special association for you; jewelry that gives you a connection and brings you delight/pleasure.

I feature handmade charms that I call “coins”. They remind me of old coins in museums - looking weather-worn and are oxidized (blackened) in areas. These coins are designed to fit your lifestyle, be collected, and be worn in multiple ways - layered, combined, and customized.

My coins are handmade in my home studio in Boulder, CO. All designs are individually etched into the silver using a safe reusable process. And, all the gemstones I use are purchased from reliable “conflict free” sources.

I have two lines I am offering in my shop right now -- Ancient Symbols and My Son the Fisherman.

My Ancient Symbols line pulls inspiration from many cultures throughout the world and throughout history. I am fascinated that there are so many symbols that cross not just geographical boundaries but spiritual and historical boundaries as well. These images are not only as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago, they also have similar meanings and inspirations for different cultures around the world. To me, they represent a thread that connects us all.

The My Son the Fisherman jewelry line is a collaboration with my 17-year old son -- an extremely passionate fisherman. It is the best way I’ve found to bond with him (not to mention supporting him with all his fishing equipment). The line combines both our passions.

Do you know anyone who is so passionate about one subject that they are focused on it all day, all night and everything in between?

If so, you may know a fisherman.

If you're passionate about fly fishing, know someone who is, or want to share your passion with someone else - My Son the Fisherman line is for you.

While I do most of the work, my family likes to help out (some more than others). Sometimes, they suggest new coins and other times assist me with photography, modeling, packaging and shipping. My company’s namesake Plum + Louie are our 4-legged family members - a dog (Plum) and a cat (Louie). They support me by giving me many reminders to get up and move and enjoy the fresh air - as well as keeping me company and letting me know when it is time to eat.

Thank you for your interest in Plum + Louie handmade jewelry. I hope you enjoy the pieces as much as I enjoy making them.

  • Plum

    Chief Love Officer

This is Plum of Plum + Louie. Her main interests are balls, eating, hiking, more balls, & love. She joined us 4 years ago from a prison program. If you are not familiar with this type of dog rescue program, check it out or feel free to contact me.

  • Louie

    Chief Critic

Louie of Plum+Louie. He joined our family a bit before Plum. Likes: eating, sleeping, sitting in the middle of whatever you are doing, torturing Plum to play, & kicking Plum out of her bed. Dislikes: being ignored, Plum sniffing his butt, & baths.

  • The Fisherman

    The Fisherman

My teenage son-The Fisherman. In preschool, we took him to a kids fishing derby. Since then, every moment of his life has been about fishing. He is either fishing, talking about fishing, tying flies for fishing, dreaming about fishing, or eating.

Frequently asked questions

Sizing details

Each coin charm is handmade and can vary in shape and size. I call the shape an “organic circle.” It is not a perfect circle nor perfect oval - it is organic shaped. I start with a specific weight of silver and shape the piece from there.
- Small coin charms are approximately 1/2” (14mm) diameter with an additional 1/4" in height for the bail.
- Medium coin charms are closer to a 3/4" (17mm) diameter with an additional 1/4" in height for the bail.

The Man Jongg Joker charm is approx. 3/4" wide x 1" high.

Care instructions

To keep your silver jewelry in good condition for many years to come...

* Jewelry should be put on after products - such as: lotions, perfumes and hair spray
* Jewelry should be taken off before showers and swimming

Tarnish is a natural occurring reaction when sterling silver is exposed to common elements in the air and water (ie: salty air, chlorine, sulfur, humidity, perspiration, cosmetics, household bleach and other strong chemicals.) All sterling silver will have to be polished periodically. To help prevent tarnish as much as possible, we recommend that you store your silver jewelry in a safe, dry place (such as a tarnish resistant bag or a plastic bag zip).

Consider purchasing silver polish cloth

Gift wrapping and packaging

When purchasing items for myself, I'm all about minimal eco friendly packaging. However, when purchasing a gift, I like to make it special. Because of this, I offer standard and gift packaging.

Standard packaging: The jewelry is put inside a small plastic bag for safety (great to keep for tarnish resistant storage). Then wrapped in tissue paper with a little biodegradable hemp ribbon. It is put in a padded recyclable shipping container.

Gift Packaging: Is the same with the addition of a nice box and ribbon.

My goal is to have all packaging and wrapping materials made from recycled and renewable resources and all items have the ability to be reused or easily recycled.

Custom and personalized orders

There are several ways I can help you personalize your item. Typically I can stamp 4 - 6 characters per line on item. On larger coin charms, I can add an additional line. I will work closely with you and do my best to get your personalization on the coin charm.

Wholesale availability

Contact me to discuss.
Since everything is individually handmade, I will need additional time to fulfill wholesale and/or larger volume orders.

Materials Used

I use precious metals in my jewelry - fine silver, sterling silver and gold.

If you are not familiar with types of silver, fine silver contains 99.9% silver; the balance being impurities; and sterling silver is an alloy containing 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals (typically copper). The practical difference between fine and sterling silver is about hardness, color and tarnish. Fine silver is softer and whiter than sterling silver and does not tarnish as much as sterling. Sterling silver, with its addition of copper, is stronger, but will tarnish.
