About

Stewing Strange Softies

I made my first plushie in 2006. I was on the hunt for a cute plush alpaca to represent my dream of becoming a fiber farmer. I couldn't find anything that I liked, so I decided to make it myself!

I teamed up with my bestie, Amy, and together we formed Crabtree Studios, selling adorable softies.

But, it wasn't long before I began straying from familiar creatures to explore the mythology, fantasy, and folklore tales I have always loved. I like to twist these tales and thoughts and infuse them with pop culture references and my own strange sense of humor. I like things that are just a little off-kilter. I also like challenging traditional notions like plush needs to be cute, or that plush is only for children. When looking at my creatures, I want people to maybe think twice about these ingrained notions. Embrace the quirky. We're all a little bit odd, and that's okay.

So, in 2009, Amy decided to focus on raising her children and I decided to get a bit more twisted. . . . Plushroom Soup was launched, featuring mostly odd creations like yetis and zombies with detachable limbs.

Each item in the shop is truly unique. I don't buy materials in bulk, and each plushie is sewn by me using patterns of my own design. I hope you like what you see and will visit often!

My name is Jessica, and I am completely self-taught. I owe much of my craftiness to my family, especially my mom. Though I originally learned many of my crafty skills from her, I did nothing productive with them until about 2006.

Plushroom Soup is brewing and stewing softies that are cuddly and lovable, but definitely a little twisted too.

Each item in my shop is truly unique. I don't buy materials in bulk, and each item is sewn by me using patterns of my own design.

A Note about Safety
Although I take great care in sewing each plushie and would never sell anything I didn't deem sturdy, I do not recommend my items for children under 12. Many of my plushies have small parts, like plastic safety eyes or beads, that can pose a choking hazard. Some also contain wire armatures. I am happy to embroider or stitch on fabric eyes upon request, though.

A Note about Allergies
I live in a smoke-free, pet-friendly home. I do not allow my pets access to my plushies, but if you are very sensitive to pet dander, please keep this in mind.
