Restored Antique and Vintage Typewriters
PoeticHome's Shop Policies
Born out of love for the eclectic and vintage, Poetic Home is our gallery of antique collectibles that all tell their own story. Imagine stumbling into an old Berkeley professor's office, or opening a 1950s photographer's studio closet...now all of these vintage treasures (and much more!) can find their life journey into your home.
Our collection specializes in writing machines from the 1880s to the 1950s. As with any antique or vintage treasure, the condition of the piece can significantly impact the value. Each typewriter in our shop is graded based upon the following criteria, which mostly pertain to aesthetics, as our typewriters are all in working condition:
NEAR MINT - Near mint condition typewriters are almost flawless. This type of writing machine may have been rarely, if ever, used. There may be very minuscule aesthetic flaws (i.e. one dust speck of paint missing) which will be stated in the ad. This type of condition is rare and accounts for the top 5% of typewriters.
EXCELLENT - Excellent condition typewriters are one grade below near mint. They show minor, light use and have very minimal aesthetic flaws, if any. Of course, any aesthetic flaws will be described in the listing (i.e. paint loss on the back of the typewriter where it latches into the case).
GOOD - These typewriters are certainly in working condition and will serve your typing pleasures for years to come, but they have been visibly loved by their previous owners. This means that there may be remnants of lubrication or oxidization on the metal parts, type indentations on the platen, minor paint loss along the edges, discoloration on the keys, etc.
Please keep in mind that the carrying cases that may come with these typewriters are usually in average to poor condition, with signs of wear and tear from protecting the treasure inside.
We accept payment via PayPal. Ideally, it would be great if you only buy an item via Etsy when you can submit payment simultaneously. Unpaid items will be relisted in 24 hours.
Unless indicated otherwise, we ship via the US Postal Service's parcel post or first class service. For our typewriters, the shipping price does include insurance for the full value, as well as delivery confirmation.
Alas, I cannot be responsible for any damages or loss that may occur once the package is out of my hands and in the care of the US Postal Service.
Due to my unpredictable schedule, purchases definitively ship each Saturday. If you need the package expedited, please convo me, and I'd be happy to help!
Refunds and Exchanges
If for some reason the item is not in line with the listing, items can be returned within 14 days for a full refund (minus the shipping cost), as long as the item is received in the same condition as it was sent.
Please keep in mind that this policy is in place to protect the integrity and lives of the typewriters; there are literally thousands of pieces in each typewriter, and each time the writing machine is shipped, it undergoes risk. While I utilize the proper packaging methods to protect every typewriter (using brand new corrugated boxes, incorporating the appropriate amount of padding, protecting the carriage, etc.), this is not necessarily the case for those sending return packages. Thus, this policy is in place simply to protect the typewriters' lives, which are quickly becoming rarer and rarer to find in good working condition.
Although I package every purchase very carefully, I unfortunately cannot be responsible for items that are damaged or lost during transit when the package is out of my control. However, for typewriters, the quoted shipping rate does include insurance coverage and delivery confirmation via the US Postal Service.
