A Blessing on the Poets
Patient earth-diggers, impatient fire-makers,
Hungry word-takers and roving sound-lovers,
Sharers and savers, musers and achers,
You who are open to hide or uncover,
Time-keepers and –haters, wake-sleepers, sleep-wakers:
May language’s language, the silence that lies
Under each word, move you over and over,
Turning you, wondering, back to surprise.

Frequently asked questions
Are you really a witch?
Yes. I was born on Halloween and have always felt connected spiritually to the earth. I love to practice earth magic, alone or in a coven, using plants, stones, and other magical objects in addition to my poetic tools of words, movement, and ritual.
What is a poetry witch?
A poetry witch uses the rhythms of language as a magical tool. I shape words into spells through meter and form and perform them in
a ritual context for transformation and healing.
What are the best things I can do to learn to write poetry?
1. Learn all you can about poetic meter, the central skill of poetry. Women and gender-nonconforming people can join my Meter Magic Spiral where i teach at poetrywitch.org. And I share resources for people of all genders in my books, youtube, and substack.
2 Read poems from all times and places, aloud three times. This will help you know if they are good poems. If they are good poems, memorize them.
