Announcement I love to draw from life, especially human figures, plants, animals and landscapes. In my studio you'll find oil paintings, drawings and prints based on the drawings. Sometimes I combine all three in one piece. I use a small Richeson press in my studio to make relief prints and notecards.

Just beautiful! So realistic. When I hold the card up to my ear I can hear the ocean!
Paintings, drawings and prints from Polly's Studio
Once upon a time, I put my art in galleries. Then I moved to Florida, and I showed my art on the street on weekends, outside rain or shine. It was fun to meet and talk with people about my work, but it all got too heavy, and oh, it was very hot sometimes.
Since 2008, I've shared my art with a much wider audience, thanks to my Etsy shop. People in Australia, England and California have purchased art from me. I really enjoy being able to send my work out into the world through Etsy.
My oil paintings are mostly on wood panels. Elements of collage, such as my sketches or prints may be incorporated into the surface. Over several sessions I build up color and depth. I often use my model sketches as starting points for paintings and prints. I am inspired by the poses, by opera, theater and human drama.
About Live Model Sketches: Sketching a living model is a timed exercise. The model takes a pose for one minute, five minutes, maybe twenty minutes. I draw what I see, or what strikes me about the pose: the gesture, the big shapes, the negative spaces, the light and shadow. It can be very intense, this way of drawing. Like an athletic or musical performance, it is condensed, vivid and alive. I may do 15 or 20 drawings in a couple hours. Afterwards I review and evaluate them. Most are eventually recycled - but a few hold up as works on their own.
Relief Prints: I print my linocuts and wood blocks on a small Richeson press in my studio. I enjoy the processes of carving the block, rolling the rich black ink and turning the press.

Please convo me if you have any questions about my work; I'd love to hear from you.
