About

" I Think I Will Try to Make One of Those Bears"

We ran a newsagent in the 1990's and when a Teddy Bear magazine came into the shop, I thumbed through it. I was hooked and made my first mohair bear using a bought pattern in 1996. We had just come back from a holiday in Spain so I called him Uno (Spanish for one). I had a small piece of mohair left so I made a smaller pattern up using the original as a guide. This one I called Dos (Spanish for two).
It grew from there and by 1997 I was supplying 5 shops, attending teddy bear fairs and had two bears nominated in the EVA awards held at Crystal Palace in London. They didn't make it to the top 3 but I was so proud to see Freddie and Arnie, bears designed and made by myself sitting in the glass cabinets at the show.
My bears have evolved slightly since then - bigger feet, longer arms, but I have stayed faithful to the traditional type of bear. My bears are simply 'bears', cute, and sometimes colourful, but following the example of the bears of the past.
A few years ago I took the plunge and put my bear making skills into use as a restorer of vintage bears and animals. This is something I have always wanted to do and now I am retired from the workplace I am able to pursue my dream.
To see an old bear or animal with arms and legs hanging off, eyes or ears missing and with split seams, and then be able to transform it to its former beauty is such a pleasure for me.
Over the last year or two I have brought small and miniature vintage dolls into my shop. I am not skilled at restoring dolls so take care to find the ones that just need a good clean and redressing.
Last year I introduced a small range of colourful hand knitted toys that have all been put through the CE testing and are therefore suitable from birth.
I hope you enjoy browsing through my shop, and I especially hope you find a Pud Bear, a knitted toy, or an old timer that you would like to own or give to someone as a special gift.

I have always loved Teddy Bears. In 1996 I made my first mohair bear and the rest is History. I live on the East coast of England with my husband, two Cavaliers and a Ragdoll cat.

Hello and welcome to the Pud Bears online shop.
All of the Pud bears are handmade from good quality mohair and have glass eyes and cotterpin joints. They are collectors' bears and therefore are not suitable for young children.
The old bears are usually bought by me in a sorry state and, using my bear making skills, mended and brought back to life.
Other vintage items will be added if I find something that fits in with my shop style.

Additional policies and FAQs
Please note the mohair bears and vintage bears are not suitable for children due to the metal parts in their joints, glass eyes, etc.

The hand knitted bears made from fancy yarns are for over 14 years only. I endeaver to make the items to a high standard and I am very safety conscious.
Please do not leave a young baby or child that still chews with any of these items. Some have woollen tails and tassels and some of this fancy yarn used for this type of bear is quite hairy and may shed. Also check any toys for damage on a regular basis and take away until it can be mended.

The CE marked knitted toys are tested to strict guidelines and are suitable from birth.
