COMMON QUESTIONS:

WHAT MAKES POND LILY'S SHOWER CURTAINS DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS?
1 - Unlike other shops, I preshrink my fabric prior to construction. Cotton and linen shrink 3 to 5% on average, even if washed in cold water and hung to dry. I have had customers who have purchased their shower curtain elsewhere tell me how terribly it shrunk when washed. This will not happen with mine! Why would you want to invest in a high end shower curtain that has not been preshrunk?

DO THE MATH: An 84 inch long curtain x 5% shrinkage = 4.2 inches

2 - I only use high-grade fabrics. Also, I pretest my fabrics with a wash and sew test prior to introducing a new style. Some fabrics wrinkle terribly and some crock (dyes bleed). Some home decor fabrics simply are not suitable for a washable shower curtain and I avoid them.

3 - I employ custom drapery shop sewing techniques. At Pond Lily you get custom quality without the custom price.

4 - You will not see the liner peek over the top or the sides of the curtain, which is common with many shower curtains.

DO SHOWER CURTAINS GET MOLDY?
No. It is a misconception that decorative fabric shower curtains get wet and mold. I personally have used a decorative fabric shower curtain for decades and have never had a problem with dampness and mold. A quality liner very adequately protects the outer fabric shower curtain from getting wet.

HOW DO I WASH MY CURTAIN?
Machine wash your curtain on the delicate cycle using cold water and a mild detergent (no built in bleach). Hang the curtain on the shower curtain rings to dry. Press as needed using an appropriate heat setting. Avoid a heavy hand when ironing so as to prevent tugging and pushing the fabric. Do NOT place in the dryer.

HOW DO I MEASURE TO DETERMINE WHAT SIZE SHOWER CURTAIN I NEED?
This varies depending on what type of shower curtain you need. Please email me and I will be happy to guide you in this area.

WHERE DO I PURCHASE LINERS TO FIT?
The sizes I offer in my store fit liners that can readily be found on the market. I do not sew nor sell liners myself. SEARCH TIP: The best way to search for a specific size liner is to type "shower curtain liner + dimensions". For example "shower curtain liner 72 x 84".

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A POLYESTER, NYLON, AND VINYL LINER?
Polyester and nylon liners are woven fabric liners. They are generally soft and drape nicely. They clean up wonderfully in your washer. They can, over time, lose their ability to shed water and need to be replaced.

Vinyl liners are plastic, tend to be somewhat stiff and do not drape as nicely as a polyester or nylon liner. Vinyl liners are the safest in protecting the fabric shower curtain; although I personally use a high quality woven liner and it works very well. One advantage of a vinyl liner is that it can be cut to a specific length. Vinyl liners are best cleaned by hand rather than in the washer. The thickness of vinyl is measured by gauge. When it comes to plastic, 10 gauge is thicker than 6 gauge. Just remember, a larger number gauge equals thicker and heavier (it's the exact opposite with wire). A hotel quality vinyl liner is generally 10 gauge.

About

Allow Pond Lily to make your bath beautiful!

Hello, my name is Colette. You could say sewing is in my blood. My grandmother taught sewing classes for Singer Sewing Company, my mother was an amazing seamstress, and I began sewing my own clothes when I was in the third grade. I have learned the art of tailoring and have operated my own drapery shop.

I have been selling shower curtains exclusively for over ten years now, selling on my own website and now selling on Etsy. At the time Pond Lily was started, extra long and wide shower curtains were scarce, thus the idea for a niche shop. Pond Lily does not take on custom work, but specializes in long and wide shower curtains that fit liners available on the market.

My business name comes from a one room country school house that my husband and I have renovated and which was named Pond Lily School. This school house is the location of my workshop.

My mother used to tell me I was a perfectionist which isn't always a good thing. It is, though, when it comes to sewing. I offer the very finest fabric shower curtains possible to which my feedback testifies.

Allow Pond Lily to make your bath beautiful.

Enjoy browsing!
