Starting in 2011 my grandfather and I began making sorghum together. Sorghum was something me and my cousin Lexi started simply because we were involved in the National FFA Association and needed a supervised agricultural experience (outside of the classroom involvement in agriculture). Although it began as a project it slowly became a way of life. Nothing could beat hot summer days and chilly fall nights of working in sorghum alongside my grandfather and hearing all the stories about him and his dad making sorghum syrup. Needless to say I stuck with making sorghum throughout high school and wasn't ready to give it up so I continued into college and I plan on making sorghum for the rest of my life! Besides just getting the benefit of a amazing memories with my grandfather and a little extra spending money, sorghum also has brought me great success. In High School I received the Kentucky FFA Star in Agribusiness award as well winning to state FFA proficiency contest. I even made it to the semi-finals in the young entrepreneurs academy business competition with my business ideas and plans. Then one day I was fortunate enough to receive a call asking if I would wanted to be featured on FarmHer. We are truly humble and blessed to have been so successful but there's no any of this would be possible without the love, knowledge, and support of my grandfather and amazing customers who come back again and again.
