Painted Pop Portraits of Parrots, Pugs or Your Own Progeny

Pop Zoo! grew organically from two of my obsessions: all animals whether weird or wonderful ("Ask me about nudibranchs and capybaras!") and, of course, painting. A few years ago I painted a couple of pet portraits as gifts for friends and family and the rest is history!

My pop pet portraits combine a flat, graphic style with bright colors and an obsessive attention to detail, capturing your pet's singular personality. All paintings are made with zero-VOC latex enamel (that's house paint for those of you playing along at home); they have a unique, slick surface and (bonus!) they're non-toxic to my resident parrot. I believe that the little details make a portrait come alive, and I have the giant stack of tiny brushes to prove it. It's incredibly rewarding to create these one-of-a-kind gifts celebrating the animals with whom we share our lives and I can't imagine a better job.

Intrigued? Excellent! Check out my shop and feel free to send me any questions you may have. I'd love to work with you!

I want you to be happy because buying art is kind of a big deal.

Unfortunately, I cannot offer refunds on original custom work. However, I will work closely with you throughout the creation of your portrait, sending photo updates and getting your feedback at many points along the way. You will have many chances to suggest minor edits and I welcome your input along the way.

For archival prints and other non-custom products: simply return it to me and I will issue a full refund including the cost of shipping.

If anything is damaged in shipping, please contact me. In most cases paintings can be repaired and prints (and any other non-original art) can always be replaced. In the event that the work is damaged beyond repair, you can return it for a full refund including the cost of shipping.
I accept payments through Paypal or Etsy Direct Checkout, and both methods accept credit and debit card payments. You don’t event need a Paypal account in order to use a credit or debit card through Paypal. How convenient!

Massachusetts residents please note: 6.25% sales tax will be added to your purchase through PayPal.

Please pay within 3 days of purchase. If you have any questions about payment, feel free to send me a message. I promise I don’t bite (only my parrot does that).
Shipping within the USA: I ship all paintings via USPS with insurance included in the shipping price. I ship all prints via USPS Priority Mail. I will always provide you with a tracking number and update emails.

I’m pretty impatient so I’ll be sympathetic if you want your purchase faster; just let me know and I can provide you with additional shipping quotes.

ALL SHIPPING PRICES ARE MY BEST ESTIMATES. If the price for the shipping of your specific painting differs significantly from my estimate, I will be sure to issue you a refund.

IMPORTANT NOTE: All custom painting shipments require the recipient to provide proof of identification when signing for the package. This means that the USPS driver can only give the painting to you after checking your ID and taking your information. This policy provides an added level of protection for both the buyer and me due to the irreplaceable nature of custom work. If you feel that this extra precaution is unnecessary for your neighborhood, please let me know and we can discuss other options.

I WILL HAPPILY SHIP ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD! Etsy just makes it really tough to calculate shipping costs for custom painting sizes, so please send me your international address and I’ll send you a quote. (Obligatory caveats: international shipping doesn’t include tracking or insurance, but if you want them, just let me know. The price of my products does not include any duties or VAT. I only charge you goods cost and shipping cost. if you are charged a VAT, you will need to pay it to your customs. Unfortunately, I am unable to pay this for you and I am also unable to estimate this.

Frequently asked questions
Sizing details

Since I build all of my canvases from scratch, I can work as small as 8"x 10" and as large as you want! To see examples of my most popular sizes and their corresponding pricing, check out my website: https://popzoo.squarespace.com/pricing/.

I live in a zoo. Will you paint all of my animals in one portrait?

I'm happy to include all of the members of your zoo in a painting, though this depends heavily on your photos and the size of portrait you'd like. Additional pets are $100 per pet.

I really love the landscape of the Serengeti. Can you paint it in the background of my pet's portrait?

Flat background colors and simple patterns are included at no charge (and I recommend them so that the details in your pet's portrait take center stage). However, I can add specific background scenes (ex: landscapes) for an additional $50.

Will you ship to far-flung corners of the globe?

Sure thing! Just send me a Conversation with your international address and what you're interested in and I’ll send you a quote.

I want to give the gift of a custom portrait to someone else. Do you offer gift certificates?

I do indeed! Gift certificates can be purchased in my Etsy shop: http://etsy.me/1XuMH6A. I offer both colorful printed gift certificate packages and digital gift certificates (for those last-minute gift givers). Gift certificates make wonderful and creative presents for birthday, weddings, anniversaries, holidays and engagements!
