PLEASE NOTE: This school year I am teaching art full-time in Heart Butte School on the Blackfeet Reservation in north-central Montana (on the east slope of the Rocky Mountains and about 40 miles south of East Glacier Park.). If you make a purchase, I will email you to let you know when I will ship, as Heart Butte is 240 miles away from my home studio in Lewistown.
Direct Check-out, Credit Card, PayPal and Etsy Gift Cards accepted. PayPal also has a "Buy Now Pay Later" credit option. Visit my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/PoppengaArtStudio for sneak PREVIEWS of works-in-progress and wet paint specials.
I work primarily in oil paint on stretched canvas, wood panels or papers that have been coated with gesso. Other materials I enjoy using include soft pastels, charcoal, acrylics and inks. I also design and hand-pull multiple color serigraphs.
Central Montana's high prairie sky and landscape fascinates me as it never appears constant but is always in a state of change. Clouds, wind, prairie and wide vistas are my favorite subjects. Stormy skies are especially interesting to me. Black Angus cattle are the dominate livestock here and I often include them not only because they seem to appear everywhere but also because they provide scale to the expansive landscape.
Although I've focused on sky and landscape for the several years, I do work with other subjects, including the human figure, wildlife and domestic cats (especially black cats.)
I also create public art, usually in the form of large-scale mural work, both interior and exterior. One of the largest, more unusual mural surfaces I've painted on was the concave interior of a full-orchestra-sized outdoor band shell in Helena, Montana.

PLEASE NOTE: LOOKING FOR A PARTICULAR PAINTING YOU KNEW WAS LISTED BUT NOW IT'S NOT?
When I enter a painting in an exhibition, I pull it from the active listings in my store until the exhibition is concluded. If it is a painting you are interested in, please email me to find out when it will again be available for purchase.
A Special Note:
Now and then I may offer free shipping on selected items. When my free shipping offer ends, I delete that line in the listings. I try to keep everything up-to-date but sometimes I miss changing an item's offer. If you notice an item in my shop that indicates free shipping but has a shipping cost listed, please let me know and, if you want to purchase that item, I will honor the free shipping.

5 out of 5 starsJess and I were fortunate enough to work with Carol at Heart Butte. She is an outstanding educator and an amazing artist. We are thrilled to own one of her original paintings. The colors, detail, and subject capture the mood of rural Montana like only a person who has spent much of their life living there could.

5 out of 5 starsThis may possibly be my favorite painting in my collection. The title "Nine Tenths" so expresses the austerity & drama of the scene it is amazing! Will purchase again! Just love it! Thanks Carol!!

5 out of 5 starsThis painting is amazing! Painting on board is so different, in a good way, than canvas. It tricks the eye so a quick glance has you looking again to make sure it isn't a photo. Best packaging I have ever seen too. Thanks Carol! I will be purchasing again & watching your upward mobility in the art community.

Shipping
IF AN ITEM DOES NOT SHOW SHIPPING COSTS FOR OUTSIDE THE USA AND CANADA, PLEASE CONTACT ME FOR SHIPPING COSTS. I try to be as close as possible to exact shipping costs in the amount I charge. When shipping can potentially be anywhere in the world, that is difficult to do and so many of my small paintings will no longer show outside USA and Canada shipping. But I will ship elsewhere! Just let me know where you want an item shipped so I can calculate the cost.
PLEASE NOTE: I ship to the ETSY shipping address. Please make sure the shipping address you supply on Etsy is correct.
Items are shipped using USPS unless the work is over size limits; in those instances I use UPS or FEDEX. I include Delivery Confirmation and Insurance on every piece of artwork shipped - that cost is included in the shipping fee for addresses outside the USA and Canada.
Additional policies and FAQs
I am always open to creating commissioned artwork - priced per request.
Feel free to ask me questions for details!
