About

How did I end up being a designer?

At the age of 8, I had a classmate who couldn't stop drawing stories of G.I. Joe in his school notebooks, he drew in class, at recess and even while eating. Very soon I would end up doing the same, I learned how to compose scenes, the scales of the soldiers in reference to the tanks, contrasts of colors, etc. I became addicted to drawing, my mother noticed it since my school performance was falling, but she saw that I was passionate about it and I gave me all her support. I grew and continued to draw, I had expanded to draw other characters, in classes I was in charge of the graphics part of the projects, I created my own drawing tools, like big markers made with deodorant pots. I did some graffiti too.

My parents knew clearly what I liked to do, that's why they enrolled me in the "IZZY" drawing school, it was just great, here I learned to use different types of pencils, smudges, how to draw with grids, I started with the most basic and the most difficult part at the same time, to draw human faces. After a while, I was taught to work with charcoal, from those years came out 2 artworks, a Charlie Chaplin and the face of an elderly man. Both artworks now belong to my parents.

After finishing high school I decided to study Graphic Design, I was lucky to attend one of the best schools in the city "Instituto de Diseño Caracas" it was 3 years where I learned a lot, I had great teachers, no computers, I spent many nights awake finishing projects, my mother helped me in many of those nights. Thanks mom!

Once graduated I went to New York to learn English, once there I got a scholarship to study at "The Cooper Union", here I took an Art Certificate, once again it was an incredible experience, they had highly qualified teachers. The school was equipped with the best facilities. Two years that I will never forget.

When I finished I started to work and I always say the same thing, the best work experience I have ever had was the first one, I worked at "The Valentine Group", I only spent one year here, but I learned a lot. They were very demanding, they had a very fine taste when designing.

Throughout these years I have work at several design firms, where I have gained experience.

Finally, I have decided to start with my own project - Posters by Leo. A poster is just a fantastic format to work with, you can spend hours trying to figure out what will look good in it, the composition must work well as a unit in order to draw attention. In this first stage, I am experimenting with Coffee.

I'm definitely enjoying what I do, each poster is special to me and I hope it is for you too.

Currently, my wife, my dog and I live in the quaint medieval town of Montblanc, Spain.
