Creativity & Construction Coming Together

As a child, sewing dolls just wasn't enough; making them was much more fun! Constructing the buckles, heels for shoes from scraps of cardboard; finding creative ways to make their hair, kept me busy for hours. I sketched and sketched to find that perfect next creation and how it would go together.

My love for fine art really grew and started to develop at a young age through the encouragement and support from my mother, and I found myself entering a Magnet School for Art in St. Louis. I took drawing and painting, but never a ceramics class until college. I found the clay and ceramics to be my most challenging medium. I was hooked!

After finishing college I packed up my truck and took off to the mountains and beauty of Colorado. My love for ceramics and working with clay was a constant thread through those years, as I worked a multitude of odd jobs to make ends meet, met inspirational people and other skilled potters and artists, sometimes sharing studio space and always swapping ideas. I settled down in Parker, Colorado to raise a family, but always kept a working studio. Sometimes it was in the garage, sometimes the laundry room. I finally found my own space in a corner of the unfinished basement.

Then the chaos began! Four kids, two dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs have all been residents in my studio. It’s only fitting that, in 1998, my business should start in this way: all the things I love surrounding me constantly. My home and studio together, customers coming and going, kids in and out, friends helping me glaze pottery, home shows and art festivals. It worked. It was chaotic. And it was a lot of fun!

The business grew, the kids grew, I grew out of my small basement studio. It was time to get serious.

In 2012 I established Pottery by Chaucy LLC, and I rented a retail space for a studio, a gallery/shop, and bought a space at the Colorado Renaissance Festival. Whew. I brought with me all my experiences, ideas, designs, customers, and of course my pets (minus the guinea pigs and rabbits).

My love for my children, my natural surroundings, and animals of all kind have been my inspiration throughout my life, and it's my hope that you see this coming through in my work and creativity.

It's been an amazing, rollercoaster of a career, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Frequently asked questions
Is your pottery food safe?

YES! All pottery is food safe. We only use American-made clays and glazes that are guaranteed to be lead-free and food safe.

Is your pottery microwave safe?

YES! Our high-fire pottery is matured fully and can be microwaved.

Is your pottery dishwasher safe?

YES! All pottery is dishwasher safe but hand washing is always recommended.

Can I put your pottery in the oven?

Yes, however, while stoneware pottery can tolerate both cold and hot temperatures, it can break if subjected to them too quickly.

Do you take custom orders?

We do not. However we sometimes take special orders, meaning that if you see a design that Chaucy currently creates and you would like it on a particular piece, we will do our best to accommodate your request. Visit for more information.

Care instructions

To care for your pottery, avoid scratching your stoneware pottery with hard bristled brushes or scraping food off with sharp objects. Stoneware pottery is strong and durable but should still be treated with care to maintain each pieces longevity.

Gift wrapping and packaging

We now offer gift wrap! Just click "add gift wrap" at checkout. We can also add a personalized gift note to any package, just specify in the "notes to buyer".

Is your pottery available for local pickup?

YES! If you are in Colorado on the Western Slope and would like to come to our studio in Paonia to pick up your order and avoid shipping costs, enter the coupon code "COLORADONATIVE" at checkout. Please note our studio has moved and we are no longer located in Franktown. If you would like to pick up your pottery please call ahead in the studio at 303.660.1213 to schedule a pick up time.

PLEASE NOTE: If this coupon code is used and you are unable to pickup your pottery or used this code accidentally, you will be held responsible for shipping costs and will need to make the additional shipping payment over the phone or via check by mail.

Why do your shipping costs seem high?

We pack and ship directly from our studio in Colorado via USPS Priority. We want all of our products to arrive at their destination safely, so most items are double boxed to insure safe receipt. Double boxing (with heaping amount of packing peanuts) provides an extra layer of protection to defend against anything your package may encounter during shipping. Some items don't require double boxing but are wrapped in cardboard for additional support. This shipping method adds additional weight to your item, and USPS Priority uses weight and location to determine shipping costs. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause some customers who live far away from us, but unfortunately the USPS Priority shipping costs are out of our control.
