This is so precious, and will be fun for my daughter's "Peter Rabbit" themed birthday party. Excellent experience!

clothing and accessories for ladies of all ages, handmade in los angeles from vintage and recycled materials

it started with a love for pretty and unique vintage fabrics, and a passion (that often bordered on obsession) for rescuing them and turning them into something beautiful and useful.

next came the quest for the perfect skirt: short enough that it wouldn't get in the way, but not too short to always require tights or leggings for decency, with a comfortable fit and a versatile shape that could be dressed up or down. oh, and pockets, it had to have pockets.

then, there were a couple turbulent years, with a new marriage, a baby, four moves in two states, all without a chance to stop and catch my breath. one day i found myself in our tiny apartment, exhausted from caring for a busy toddler and working an unfullfilling job that kept me from being home the way i had intended to, and frustrated that i no longer had the time or energy for the projects that i used to love so much.

then i remembered the collection of vintage fabrics stowed away in the bedroom closet, and how those bins contained everything that had been missing from my life, my passion for making, and my desire to make sustainable, ethical, made-in-la fashion accessible to everyone, and my yearning to stay home with my daughter while still contributing to the family income.

and there, poverty luxe was born.

at poverty luxe, youll find one-of-a-kind garments and accessories, lovingly handcrafted from recycled fabrics (you wont find these prints at joanns or hobby lobby, thats for sure) right here in our los angeles apartment.
