Ceramics in a new light

I started making clay objects in high school. Yes, I was that kind of kid. Pottery class was supposed to be an easy way out of any hard learning but there I was and it was my first "A" in a class. The classic under achiever had met his match. I soon understood that perseverance would make this into an avocation worth pursuing. After 15 or so years making functional table wares and handmade tile. I got interested in ritual objects. To hold a favorite coffee mug is a ritual object pottery clay moment. To hold a vessel and call on our souls to remember a time of sanctity is the glue that binds the generations together. May it be a mezzuzah, dreidle, seder plate or other Jewish ritual object , I am happy to make a vessel or object for you. Customized with a name or date or image you might want for your special occasion or holiday. At sixty years old, as it is said, the check engine light will come on. What once were minor inconveniences become stronger signals that it’s time to start a new direction. I have been somewhat dormant in the field of ceramics for almost twenty years. Now I find myself being drawn back into it with a new found, much deeper desire to bring together previously separate experiences. To combine the building skills of being a contractor, the Prairie style I love so much from my tile making years and living in the Midwest and the Judaica that calls to my soul. At any crossroads of life we are faced with the question of “what now?” I see this as the perfect opportunity to re imagine the many threads of my years. In this process, I can already feel the excitement of new discoveries taking place. Even now I have started on early prototypes of new forms. I have a home based studio, reconnected to colleagues and started on the design and forming of a new set or forms and designs. I see this life as having a few main directives. In my view, one at the utmost of importance is a sense of purpose. By being creative with the skills learned throughout life I must pursue this endeavor to continuously recreate community, continuity, beauty and spirit. Please contact me for pricing and timing.
