Prairie Primitives Folk Art: Handcrafted Heritage Since 1989
★ The Maker Behind the Primitives ★
Hi, I'm Tana! My journey into the world of folk art began in 1989, born from a love of 19th-century antiques and aged textiles. While I’ve explored many styles, the "grungy" primitive aesthetic has held my heart for over 35 years.
★ A 20-Year Etsy Legacy ★
I brought Prairie Primitives to Etsy nearly 20 years ago, during the platform's early days. Long before "Antique Style" was a trending search, I was refining the coffee-staining and aging techniques I use today in my home studio, now located in Sacramento County, California.
My journey connecting with primitive enthusiasts runs deep. In 2001, I was personally invited to exhibit at the California Country Antiques Show, a highly curated primitive antiques and folk art show held in Silicon Valley. For the next decade, I was proud to be one of the two founders of the show’s "Folk Art Corner" -- a dedicated space created specifically for "Antiques of the Future." This mission continues today where I handcraft each piece to be a 21st-century heirloom with a 19th-century soul.
★ Designed for the Collector ★
I specialize in antique-inspired dolls and home décor made to bring a bit of the 19th century into your 21st-century home. Whether it's a signed and dated primitive doll like my seasonal Santas and pumpkin folk, or my signature wabi-sabi style quilt hearts -- which some dedicated fans have collected by the dozens -- every piece is a unique heirloom.
★ The "Old Soul" Difference ★
Everything is handcrafted by me, often using time-worn antique textiles and quilt shop quality reproduction fabrics.
Thanks for stopping by my smoke-free, pet-free studio -- I hope you’ll check back often to see what’s new from the studio!
