I love jewelry that is sentimental or tells a story.

My shop is full of unique, one of a kind items. My newest obsession is sea glass. There will be some nice pieces coming soon. I also love sentimental pendants, mixing metals, adding the unexpected to my designs. What will come next, who knows!

My love of making jewelry started out at a very early age, the age of dressing up with Grandmas old clothes and clipon earrings. Of course the earrings had to match the dress!

I love working with all mediums including semiprecious stones, resins, old keys, pocket watches, lockets and mixed metals.

My husband and I love to travel and I am always picking up new jewels and ideas. My studio looks like a jewelry supply store but it's hard not to buy exciting jewels and metal pieces. Who knows what will come next!

Be sure to check out our supply store. PrairieSilverSupplys.etsy.com offers Sterling Silver and many other new and unique supplies. We are constantly adding new items, so please check us out.

Last but not least, none of this creativity that gives me so much pleasure and relaxation would be possible with out my Lord Jesus Christ. He knows what gives us comfort in this world in which we live in!

About

I started Prairie Star Jewels thinking I could slowly build up my business and retire early.

I have always been crafty, doing everything from decopage, tole painting, frame making and many others. Making jewelry though, gives me peace. I don't always know what I am making when I start. It just develops. Sometimes when I get finished the piece gets torn apart and other times I just love it.

I had my job eliminated 4 years ago and worked part time after that which gave me the time I needed to grow the business plus add a supply shop (PrairieSilverSupplys.etsy.com). Then, to our complete surprise my husband had his job eliminated. Back to full time work for me and we both took jobs paying about half what we used to make.

The businesses keep us afloat and my husband now has a big role. He keeps the books, orders certain items and goes to shows with me. I can see it would be a great retirement job.

Our dog Gracie also thinks she is a part of the business. If I tell her we need to go downstairs to the studio and get orders ready she is right there. Of course it means a car ride to the post office for her!
I love what I do and my goal is to quit my day job. I think in about 1 more year if I work really hard at it, it will come true!

Do what you love, love what you do! That is my motto. I have always been a crafty person thanks to my parents. My dad was a master woodworker. Mom was a fabulous quilter amongst other things. She encouraged creativeness.
