Announcement   Perfect gifts for new beginnings: weddings, homes, babies, Bar and Bat Mitzvah.
The Jewel Stone Mezuzah Series features hand-painted illuminated Japanese papers and acrylic mixed media fused to copper, creating durable, weather-resistant protectors of the parchment scroll placed within. This design evokes both scroll and treasure, ancient jewel cases in contemporary sculpted form.
The Timna Series- named for the copper mines of ancient Israel. Copper [a metal that conducts energy] is wrapped in a silver metal filigree. The filigree represents the way energy is filtered through the beauty of tradition and the mitzvah of placing a mezuzah on the doorpost.
The Mica Series, inspired by geology, applies mixed media, mylar and mica onto copper, catching glints of light like sands on a beach.

About

Artist Designer in the Hudson Valley

Present Artifacts begins with the idea that the past is a gift that enriches the present. I like the energy that is sparked by the interaction between different times and different materials. In designing these mezuzahs I work with different materials in each series- Japanese papers, painted mylar, stainless steel- all fused to copper w hich is itself a transmitter of energy
Other designs are in copper, silver and gold where the material itself carries the message.
My influences come from history, archeology, geology and the natural world. These elements find their way into the designs to tell a layered story of how the present draws from the past while responding to the hear and now.
