Engineer to Diaper Bag Designer
I spent 10 wonderful years as a hardware engineer at Intel. In 2014, I took that experience and mentored a young girl's team for Tech Challenge here in the Bay Area. The challenge was taking a real life problem and coming up with an idea how to solve it, which motivated me to solve my own problem where I needed a functional but beautiful diaper bag.
I rediscovered my passion for the design process, technology, and functional design--I felt my creativity reignited. it was also around this time I struggled with being a new mom on the go. I live in the vibrant Bay Area and motherhood didn't slow me down, but my diaper bags did! I wanted to be able to easily carry around all of my baby gear in a practical and discreet, elegant bag (moms like to be stylish, too!), but I couldn't find one that fit my needs. Many classic diaper bags are very bulky to carry and wanting to easily carry your child with you was impossible.
It was a no-brainer: I decided to make my own diaper bag that was both practical and functional but also stylish and elegant. I envisioned a sleek bag that fit all the baby essentials that still looked like a beautiful, designer handbag. I used my engineering and design skills to make my own diaper bag just in time for my second child. Life also became a balancing act between my “work-life” and my “mom-with-baby” time in the fast-paced tech world. I transitioned from the corporate world to be a stay-at-home-mom, which gave me precious time with my family and I decided to take this opportunity to join the exciting entrepreneurial world in January 2016.
I created my own parenting blog, designed and manufactured my bags, and launched a website in early 2017 under the brand name "VIMANEAA". My first run of diaper bags received rave reviews and sold out only within a couple of months of launching on my own website. This year(2018) I launched my improved version of the handbag and also a backpack style of the bag.
First and foremost, this diaper bag is a tool to make life easier for parents with young children. Parents with hectic work schedules and busy social lives need a simple diaper bag to carry their essentials. What is unique about Pretty Pokets is that I designed a patent-pending diaper dispenser and trash cover to make diaper changing as painless as possible. No more digging around in a messy bag for diapers.
