The result of years of obsession with shiny things.
I've been making beaded for over 20 years, selling in small markets and making gifts. My inventory has gotten out of control and I need to sell off some work so I can buy more shiny things! When I see a focal bead in a store, I mentally design a piece around it before I even pick it up. I remember buying an Italian Millefiore pendant years ago and the seller was put off because I didn't want a gold chain to go with it--who cares about a boring machine-made gold chain? I wanted to bead the chain to complement the pendant.
Lately I've muddied my brand a bit by whipping up a bunch of fabric wine gift bags. I did this because my cat, NIMBY, loved to "Go Sew" with me and we spent many happy hours sewing together during his last months fighting rabies-vaccine-site sarcoma. I made over 100 bags with NIMBY, with no thought of what I'd ever do with them all. My wine bags are made with love, and guaranteed to have at least one tabby hair stuck to them. : )
My mom and grandma were prolific cross-stitchers and I learned my love of handwork from them. I watched my grandma lose her ability to do needlework as her Parkinson's disease progressed. Four years ago I severed my own right hand in a car-vs-bicycle incident, and my hand was saved by a pair of amazing surgeons. I am so grateful to still be able to do the hand work I love!
