About

Farmgirl Quilter

I decided that I'd like to sell my quilts as my skills developed through the years. I enjoy the creative process of picking the quilt pattern, or making up a new one, along with choosing fabrics and finally doing the quilting (stitching all the layers together) on my longarm quilting machine.

Years ago, we raised hogs on an Ohio farm. Pigs and I have a long history of getting along, so choosing the name of my shop had to include something about quilting (calico fabric) and pigs though a few in my family have wondered why.

Before moving back to Texas, we lived in upstate NY on a farm where we raised alpacas as well as corn, beans, wheat and hay. I'd knitted years ago and rediscovered this skill after I learned how to spin the fleece from our alpacas into buttery smooth, so soft alpaca yarn. I bought a spinning wheel and collected the things I needed to learn how to dye my handspun yarns into gorgeous, vibrant colors.

While I was spinning and dyeing and also making wire jewelry, I was still quilting, of course, as more grandkids joined our family. I learned how to make wire jewelry that I combined with beautiful stones and gems to make one of a kind necklaces, earrings and bracelets. We sold my yarns, knitted goods and jewelry in a small store that we had on our farm out near the road. (my husband rehabbed an old produce stand and turned it into a really neat small store space for us)

When we moved back to Texas, leaving our wonderful upstate NY farm (I still miss summer NY weather!), it was time to try another kind of store. This time, it is an Etsy shop where I can offer my quality, handcrafted quilts, throws and art quilt wall hangings for sale.

In learning about safety of products for children, I decided that being compliant with the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) was something I wanted to do to give my customers the assurance that my baby quilts were safe for infants. (as well as anybody else).

I love the creative process and knowing that by using only quality quilting cotton fabrics and then sewing my quilts together with bigger seams and smaller stitches than in most commercially sold quilts, my quilts are keepers. They are meant to be used, loved and washed (then repeat).

I hope you enjoy my quilts!
