Announcement   Pernickety's Books

Years ago I wrote a story about a magic bookshop whose proprietor was a mercurial cat named Pernickety. The underlying theme of this story was that books have magical powers to change our lives. And so they do!

I love everything about books and always have: I love the way that a book feels in my hands, the riffling sound made when I turn the pages, the way the pages smell, particularly that wonderful slight musty smell of an antique or vintage book. The smell of an old book is like a time machine, transporting me not just to worlds beyond the horizon but far back down the roads of memory to that magical time when I first discovered my love for reading.

For this reason, our shop features lots of antique or vintage books -- please feel free to browse at your leisure!

Thanks for visiting!

About

"Remembrance of Things Magic"

Our shop, Quinella Quaint, is dedicated to the simple idea that, despite the awful news headlines that daily bombard us, there is magic in this world all around us just waiting to be discovered. This has been the most important guiding principle in our life, both personally and professionally, and informs almost everything we do. We are Kit and Warren Cropper, owners of Kit Cropper Studios (please visit us @ www.kitcropperstudios.com), and we have been finding, creating and selling whimsical creations for a long time.

"Don't Forget the Magic"

I like to call Kit's work the "art of whimsy", because it takes our universe and juxtaposes it with another possible "parallel universe" in a way that makes you smile, or laugh, or think. We moved to a remote area of Northern California some years ago to find a refuge where we could create. For years, whenever we drove south to the San Fransisco Bay area on HWY 101, we passed a sign on an old building that read, "Don't forget the magic!" This phrase resonated with me and would haunt me for days after seeing it. Over the years this haunting has become permanent and is the theme on which Quinella Quaint is founded. After all, "seeing" in a different way, as Thomas Wolfe put it, "makes new magic in a dusty world".
