About

Passionate about colours and textures using clay and yarns

I originally studied Textiles throughout my late teens and early 20s and then discovered the joys of playing with clay! For the past 3 years I have just sold pottery in my Etsy shop having previously sold through art galleries and local craft fairs. However, recently I have become re-obsessed with yarns and weaving - hence the new shop name of REDceramics and Weaves.

My grandmother was a fine artist and always encouraged my creative interests. She always had a number of different projects on the go at once as well!

Although I studied a mix of skills at Art school my interest in pottery came from my first real teacher as an adult - the renowned Dorset potter and craftsman, Norman Wellstead. He taught me the basics about pottery and ceramics, all done the old fashioned way, with no short cuts and even preparing and working with clay dug from local ditches. An amazing gentleman to whom I am very grateful. I like all my work to be decorative, but most importantly useful.

I think ceramics and textile art are very closely related. It all shows a love of colour and different surface textures. Weaving makes a change from potting and is wonderfully relaxing. I can create different effects by using different yarns just as I would in my pottery by using different techniques and glazes to alter surfaces.

I'm not sure now which I love the most, I swap between the 2, but I hope you enjoy browsing in my little shop!
