Il mio lavoro incoraggia la creatività, l'esplorazione, ma soprattutto, fare ciò che ami.
L'unica cosa che è diventata sempre più importante per me man mano che sono cresciuta, mentre diventavo sempre più difficile da preservare, è mantenere vivo quel senso di meraviglia infantile. Il modo in cui creo arte e libri per i miei figli mi aiuta a continuare ad attingere a quella curiosità selvaggia che era dilagante da bambino.
Ho sempre amato fare arte, ma durante il liceo è quando ho capito per la prima volta che volevo essere un artista quando sono "cresciuto". Ho continuato a ricevere il mio Bachelor of Arts in Belle Arti presso la Loyola Marymount University e il mio Master of Arts in Scultura presso la California State University, Northridge. Durante questo periodo, la mia curiosità mi ha portato a lavorare con una vasta gamma di mezzi, tra cui performance, video, fotografia, creando esperienze all'interno e all'esterno degli spazi della galleria per la partecipazione pubblica, resina e oggetti trovati.
Avevo lavorato a tempo pieno come visual stylist attraverso la scuola di specializzazione e ho continuato a farlo dopo la laurea. Nel 2016, ho deciso di lasciare il lavoro a tempo pieno per perseguire il mio sogno di fare arte per vivere. Fu allora che Nacque The Busy Birds e mi riportò al mio primo amore: la pittura. Ho usato queste forme di uccelli a gambe lunghe come vasi giocosi per aiutare a esprimere diverse parti di me stesso. Questi dipinti alla fine si espansero in una varietà di passioni, luoghi e professioni per aiutare a incoraggiare gli altri a seguire quella cosa che porta appagamento o semplicemente pura gioia.
Durante questo stesso anno, mi sono sposato con la mia spremuta principale e ci siamo trasferiti da Los Angeles a Bend. È quasi impossibile non essere ispirati da un ambiente così bello e siamo rimasti assolutamente sbalorditi. La nostra eccitazione era palpabile mentre facevamo la nostra missione di esplorare nuovi posti ogni fine settimana e naturalmente questo trasudava nelle mie opere d'arte.
Le idee per il mio primo libro per bambini hanno iniziato a ribollire e nel 2018 ho pubblicato il mio primo libro illustrato The Busy Birds Adventures: Little Bird Explores Bend! Da allora, ho creato altri due libri ispirati a Bend: un libro da tavolo per gli uccellini chiamato Hello, Bend! e un libro per le vacanze che sarà disponibile nel 2022 chiamato Christmas in Bend.
È stato così gratificante vedere bambini e famiglie godersi questi libri. La qualità interattiva che un libro fornisce è stata una delle imprese creative più appaganti di sempre!
Trascorro la maggior parte del mio tempo con le mie due persone preferite, ugualmente creative: mio marito e mia figlia. Il mio lavoro viene svolto durante i sonnellini, le serate e i fine settimana e una volta che abbiamo messo a letto la nostra dolce figlia, io e mio marito amiamo realizzare qualsiasi progetto abbiamo in corso, far rimbalzare le idee l'uno dall'altro e seguire dove l'energia creativa vuole portarci!
Sebbene il mio lavoro abbia spaziato molto ampiamente nel corso degli anni, ciò che mi spinge ad andare avanti è seguire la mia curiosità dove mi porta a continuare a fare ciò che amo, mentre autorizzo gli altri a fare lo stesso.

My work encourages creativity, exploration, but most importantly, doing what you love.
The one thing that has become more and more important to me as I’ve grown older—while becoming harder and harder to preserve—is keeping that childlike sense of wonder alive. The way I go about creating art and my children's books helps me to continue tapping into that wild curiosity that was rampant as a child.
I’ve always loved making art, but during high school is when I first knew I wanted to be an artist when I “grew up”. I went on to receive my Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts at Loyola Marymount University and my Master of Arts in Sculpture at California State University, Northridge. During this time, my curiosity led me to work with a wide range of mediums, including performance, video, photography, creating experiences inside and outside gallery spaces for public participation, resin, and found objects.
I had been working full time as a visual stylist through graduate school and continued to do so after graduating. In 2016, I decided to quit the full time job in order to pursue my dream of making art for a living. This is when The Busy Birds was born and brought me back to my first love—painting. I used these long legged bird shapes as playful vessels to help express different parts of myself. These paintings eventually expanded into a variety of passions, places, and professions to help encourage others to follow that thing that brings fulfillment or just pure joy.
During this same year, I got married to my main squeeze and we moved from LA to Bend. It’s just about impossible not to be inspired by such beautiful surroundings and we were absolutely in awe. Our excitement was palpable as we made it our mission to explore new places each weekend and naturally that oozed into my artwork.
Ideas for my first children’s book started bubbling up and in 2018 I published my first picture book The Busy Birds Adventures: Little Bird Explores Bend! Since then, I’ve created two more Bend-inspired books—a board book for the baby birds called Hello, Bend! and a holiday book which will be available in 2022 called Christmas in Bend.
It has been so gratifying to see kids and families enjoying these books. The interactive quality that a book provides has been one of the most fulfilling creative undertakings yet!
I spend most of my time with my two favorite, equally creative, people—my husband and daughter. My work is done during naps, evenings, and weekends and once we put our sweet daughter to bed, my husband and I love to break out whatever project we have going on, bounce ideas off of each other, and follow where the creative energy wants to take us!
Although my work has ranged very widely over the years, what keeps me moving forward is following my curiosity where it leads me to continue doing what I love, while empowering others to do the same.
