Couldn't be happier about my purchase! The pictures do this pen no justice - the colour and the grain of the wood, and the shine on the metallic components, are breathtaking in person. I inquired about a gift box to go along with it, and to my pleasant surprise, Ralph made a wooden box, complete with metal hatch and velvet lining. All my questions were answered promptly and in detail, and the prices are quite reasonable. The items arrived safely and within a week of shipment.

A custom set of plates, made just for us. Ralph's attention to detail and knowledge about his craft were invaluable throughout the process, and made for a great buyers experience.

About

Welcome to the RJTurnings wood shop!

Hi, this is my workshop,

This is where I cause all the damage. Oops, I mean this is where I create all the beautiful pieces of wood turned art.

As you can see I have a lot of tools and equipment and am quite proficient at making a mess. Most of the time out of that mess I manage to come out with a nice piece.

My interest in woodworking started at a very early age as a child building and repairing things with my father. After a long period of pursuing interests other than woodworking (about 15 years) I recently developed an interest in wood turning. This is not entirely a new interest as my dad had also done wood turning when I was a child. So it seems pretty natural that I developed a similar interest that I can have as a hobby as I prepare for retirement.

So this past May of 2013 I purchased a Nova 1624 lathe, and have been continually sinking more money into this endeavor ever since as I continue to learn. There always seems to be at least one more tool that you just have to have.

Over the last year I have learned a lot and have begun to accumulate quiet a few pieces. I am setting up this site to display and sell some of my wares.
Come back often as I continue turning and adding items to this site.

Sincerely,
Ralph

It is now 2016 and I thought a little update was in order:

I actually sold my house in November of 2014, and of course my shop went with it. Consequently I was without a shop, and more importantly without my lathe until December of 2015. We purchased a residence in Quesnel and moved up here in September of 2015. After moving I was very busy building a new shop so that I could rescue my tools and machinery from the dreaded storage unit.
I am now settling into a new to me home in a new to me town, and have retired from full time work. As a result I have much more time for wood turning and am looking forward to producing more items to display in my store.

I have also updated my shop pictures.

Thanks again,
Ralph

Hi, this is Ralph. Thanks for dropping in. I enjoy creating wood art and take great joy in the reactions people have to my creations.

I create many different things on the lathe, including bowls, platters, plates, and boxes. I like to try different designs as well as different methods. You will likely never see two items that look the same.

If you purchase a utilitarian item, it is finished with a food safe finish. It can be used for serving fruit, pasta, salad, popcorn, and other great snacks. It should be washed in warm soapy water and left to air dry. Do not microwave or put bowls in the dishwasher. Bowls should be stored out of direct sunlight so as to not alter the bowl's color. If the finish begins to wear, it should be reconditioned with Clapham's Beeswax Salad Bowl Finish. If Clapham's is not available you can use walnut oil or tung oil. If this item is properly cared for, it will be a useful happy bowl, and it can last for generations.

Decorative items should also be stored out of direct sunlight, but in a prominent area of your home or office. This will make your piece feel loved and should also make you smile. The surface can be reconditioned with clear paste wax if needed. Simply apply the wax, wait for it to dry, and buff until polished with a clean cloth.

If you are happy with your item please leave positive feedback on Etsy. If for some reason you are unhappy with your item please contact me through Etsy.

Thank you,
Ralph Vawter
