About R.P. Hardie Leather Co.

There are plenty of leather shops out there to choose from and they all have their cute little stories about where they started and how they are going to bring you the best made leather goods that they can make since learning how to work with leather by watching YouTube videos for the past 6 months. Well, that type of "learning curve" does not equate to any form of quality whatsoever regardless of how "skilled" you have become. This where my personal experience with leatherwork makes the difference and results in a truly high-quality product that I can stand behind for decades to come.

I am a professionally trained leather craftsman that has many, many years of education and hands-on experience when it comes to working with leather. My education covers everything from how leathers are produced (every aspect of the tanning process and how each end product is suited for use), professional training in the arts of Stamping and Carving & Tooling designs into the leather, many hours of learning how to properly hand-stitch or lace a leather item, and I have even been professionally educated in the business side of leather goods production and processes. My education and hands-on experience covers every aspect of the real leather trades and has allowed me to create finished goods for clients around the globe for over 40 years.

Although my name is not an International brand or found on the shelves of the high-end fashion stores but that doesn't mean anything anyway. Afterall, the products that you commonly find in these fashion shops or on the shelves of your local big-box stores are really made with quality, durability, or professionalism in mind as they are all the cheapest foreign made items that can be found and offered at a price that makes you think you have something of value. There is no value in substandard materials or production techniques that produce a low-priced piece of future landfill participation. Value is not merely the price of an item as is most commonly believed, it is the overall benefits of what the item offers, the quality of the construction and how it enhances its usefulness, and the price when compared to what you are getting. In other words, spending $25.00 on a thin leather wallet that is going to wearout in 6 to 9 months because you overload it is not a bargain and there is no value; spending $75.00 or more on a wallet that is made from Premium leather that is intended for everyday use and that has been carefully designed and produced using the finest techniques and materials and that will be around for decades is one heck of a value because you aren't replacing it in any short order.

I make handmade leather items that are drawn from the highest quality leathers, materials, and supplies available to any leather crafting person or company out there. I only use the finest because what I make is intended to last for life and I stand behind it with a guarantee that you won't find in a fashion store let alone a department store. The leathers and materials that I use are more expensive than the cheaper ones used by so many other crafters but quality does not come cheap. I strive to make my products affordable for all to purchase but I don't give anything away; I make a quality leather item that you will use for years to come and will even be able to pass down to other generations and I know you can't do that with anything you buy in a fashion store or at your local "whatever-mart" type of department store.

I may not be on the cheaper side of pricing but I can guarantee you that I am on the highest side of quality, craftsmanship, and support and that my finished goods are really that much better than from pretty much any other source. If you only want to buy something once in life then you have come to the right place but if you just want to keep blindly spending your money on cheaper priced items then you need to move on as there are plenty of sources for what you are looking for.

The world of leather goods is vast and unique so anything is possible with leather.

Thank you for visiting my shop.

Shop policies

Welcome to the home of R. P. Hardie Leather Co., I am the High Desert Leathersmith of Northern Nevada.

My philosophy is quite simple: to provide everyday people with high-quality, hand-made durable leather goods that are intended for everyday use and can be used for years to come. Unlike the products that we currently purchase from the local discount stores, the products that I make do not fall apart within a few weeks or months, they last much, much longer. In fact, some items can last so long that they are actually passed from one generation to the next.

I proudly use materials from the USA to create my products and everything is entirely made by hand. From the cutting of parts, to the design work, stitching/lacing and finishing, it is all done by hand just like it has been done by Artisans for centuries.

Shipping

I strive to ensure that all orders are completed within the time frame noted on the item listing; all orders are worked on in the order in which they are received without exception.

All orders are shipped via USPS Priority Mail as it is the most economical method available when compared to other carriers. You will be provided with a package tracking number once your package enters the transportation stream.

Orders over $250.00 may require a signature upon delivery; you will be notified if this is necessary so that you can make arrangements for successful completion of your order transit.

The customer is responsible for any and all additional charges for rejected packages.

SHIPPING RATES

Shipping rates are determined by the carrier based on their selected criteria; your shipping is FREE to you but it is still an expense for me to get it out to you.

SHIPPING DESTINATIONS

I ship within the United States and to APO/FPO addresses only. Please ensure that a complete and correct address is provided for delivery location to ensure proper and prompt delivery to the final destination. Delivery times may vary depending upon time of year/Season; these are at the discretion of the carrier and are their responsibility to maintain.

Due to the high costs of shipping to International destinations and the additional customs/duty fees that are attached to such shipments the decision was made to withdraw from providing my products overseas.

LOST or STOLEN PACKAGES

Once your order has shipped, R. P. Hardie Leather Co. is not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged, or mis-delivered packages. Orders placed with us are shipped through a 3rd-party carrier, and as such risk of loss and title of ownership of goods ordered is passed on to you upon delivery of your package(s) to the carrier. If you are having trouble tracking your package or arranging delivery it is your responsibility to contact the carrier tor assistance and resolution.
Additional policies and FAQs
Due to the high costs of shipping to International destinations the decision to withdraw from sales outside the U.S. was necessary. There are many fine leather craftsman around the globe and you should support them and their businesses to the fullest.

Some listings within this shop may include the use of "props" to help portray how the item(s) may be used or to show-off some of the special features; these "props" are not included with any item as they are for display purposes only. (Silly to have to use such a disclaimer but you know there is a reason why.)

All orders are processed in the order in which they are received so there are no "RUSH" orders accepted. First come; first served.

I do not accept requests for wholesale, consignment, or custom order items that include licensed materials, logos, or imagery that is protected under a Trademark or Copyright, PERIOD, so please don't even ask as this is against the law here and abroad.

I stand behind the products I make and offer a Lifetime Guarantee that the craftsmanship put into every item is of the highest quality. I can guarantee that an item will be free from any defects in craftsmanship and will last far longer than any commercially produced product of comparable style and design as long as the item is used in the manner for which it is intended and is properly maintained and cared for based on the type of materials used. To assist with this, you will be provided care instructions with your order.

Being as leather is a natural material that is derived from the skin of an animal and the type of leather I use has not been cosmetically modified from its original form, it is common understanding that there may be slight blemishes or marks on the surface or that there may be slight color variations that do not appear until the finishing process. I make every effort to ensure that no major surface issues such as brands or large scars are present on the sections selected for your project in order to achieve the fine detail and clean appearance of the finished design. However, there will always be some form of blemish on the leather as this is an unavoidable event. Any blemishes or color variations by no means effect the integrity or durability of the leather and these blemishes or variations are not acceptable as justification for return or a claim of damage.

This shop reserves the right to refuse any order, at any time without further explanation or justification for such a decision and without any further recourse being afforded the person who's order was refused. This reservation also applies to all requests for return that are declined.
Privacy
I do not directly collect or have access to your payment information as this is processed by third-parties and handled through their security layers. The only personal information that I do collect is your name, address, and contact information and this information is used solely for the purpose of verifying that I am sending a completed order to the person who has ordered it and that it will be sent to the correct address; if issues arise I will use your contact information to notify you.

I do not share nor sell any of your information with other sellers or agencies and I do not use your information for marketing or sales pitches as I do not maintain a mailing list.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

I welcome custom and/or personalized orders and will work with you on providing you with what you are looking for as long as it does not violate the intellectual property rights of another person or company. If you would like to discuss a custom order please contact me through the Etsy Conversations process and we can get to work on your ideas.

Sizing details

In the event that specific sizing information is required on an item, this information will be detailed in the item's listing information and must be followed as outlined to ensure a proper fit is achieved. Failure to follow specified instructions will void any and all guarantees and rights to return the item(s).

Care instructions

Leather is very easy to maintain and care for and you will be provided with written information in your order that will address this topic. Please follow the provided information as detailed; failure to do so could result in potential item failure and will automatically negate any implied or written guarantee or promise and will also disqualify the item(s) for return/replacement consideration.

What type of leather is used?

I use only the finest and highest rated natural vegetable-tanned cowhide leathers, pigskins, and exotic skins that are each carefully selected for their proven results of durability and natural character. These materials may cost more but they do so for a reason; if you want something cheap, this isn't where you will find it.

Do you ship Internationally?

Sorry, but no, I do not. The cost of shipping an item outside the United States is so high that it just isn't cost effective for the consumer in today's marketplace. Couple that with the fact there are many fine craftsmen around the world right now it is only appropriate that you support your local/regional craftsmen so that their businesses can flourish as well.
