Hi Ruth, after I ordered your cards last year I wanted some of your new designs this year and I wasn't disappointed - they are beautiful and enchanting! Can't wait to start sending Christmas greetings to everyone ;-) Very pleased Thanks with my purchase and sorry I didn't say hello in my order - I was a bit quick hitting order and couldn't get back again l😅
Designer, illustrator, writer of children's books and maker of cards with a big laugh!
With a passion for design and a first class honours degree in Architecture from the University of Bath, I have founded Ruth Thorp Studio as a base for all of my current and future creative ventures, in particular offering my services as an illustrator, designer and children's writer.
I am a proud graduate of the amazing 'Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design' course and since embarking on this new adventure into the world of pattern I am pleased to say that it has transformed my life. It is my natural instinct to dive head first into exploring new ideas, learning new skills, drawing inspiration from my surroundings and embracing new ways of looking at things.
My ethos of design parallels my belief that a life should be built on happiness, a sense of pride and worth which can touch others in a positive light. Ultimately, I feel that design across different disciplines should focus on people, meeting the needs of the user and creating products that inspire, work and function efficiently and can be enjoyed. I hope that this shows through in my patterns and surface design which often hold a strong emphasis on complex colours combined with bold graphics, both hand-drawn and vector based, that is clean and well considered and holds a sense of fun and energy.
I am drawn to bold, brave, simple and sophisticated design, and I like to express my quirky sense of fun and humour in my work.
