Lace Love

As we wandered through the shops of Haight Ashbury trying to find corsets and other design ideas, my friend and I came up with the name Ragavon. A mix of rags to riches, a style I had begun to turn into my own, with upcycled designs from lace scraps and vintage corsets and slips, along with a hint of my ridiculously long last name, vonEhrenkrook. I had just sold a dress on Etsy for the first time, and already had more interest in my designs.

I have been sewing since I was about 13. My mom taught me the basics of assembling a garment, and I just took off from there. I used her vintage Singer sewing machine that she had bought when she was about 12 years old. Hand-me-downs were my muse. Anything I could find from the goodwill, or a re-use store, I would envision unique one-of-a-kind dresses or skirts, upcycled from materials thrown by the wayside. I loved the idea of reusing materials and giving them a new life through these refreshed garments.

It wasn't until I began studying at California College of the Arts that I truly understood the damage the fashion and textile industry had on the environment. Taking their eco-sustainable fashion courses helped me shape my designs in hope to make as much of a difference as I can, and enlighten my customers of the fast fashion destruction.

I love making these designs and hope to continue improving my work with more fun ideas for you beautiful people of the world.
