About

Rain Garden Quilts from Rural Vashon Island, Washington!

Hello! And thanks for visiting Rain Garden Quilts, a proud Quiltsy Team member and Recycle Party shop!

I create my quilts and handknits at my solar-powered home on rural Vashon Island, a short ferry ride from Seattle, WA. I enjoy the challenge of making quilts and knits from "found" fabrics and yarn from my local thrift store, supplemented by treasures found at the fabulous Vashon quilt shop, Island Quilter. Upcycling and repurposing materials fits my green values.

I particularly enjoy mixing modern fabrics with vintage quilt designs. And modern quilt designs with vintage fabrics! :-)

Like many Etsy craftspeople, I come from a long line of spunky women who made stuff: Quilts and clothing, lace and rag rugs. Women who gardened, canned food and knit -- both out of necessity and for creative expression.

My spouse and I are organic veggie gardeners, take public transportation to work off-island (ferry, bus, vanpool) and share our home with five rescued felines. We've built a rain garden to capture the rain that falls on our roof. It provides the pleasure of flowing water in the garden and irrigates water-loving plants as the rainwater filters through the earth on its way to the aquifer.

We are the parents of three grown children, all of whom live in the Seattle area.

An ongoing focus for my quilting is a local project, American Heroes Quilts, which provides handmade quilts to wounded veterans returning from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Visit www.americanheroquilts.com to see a gallery of quilts and quotes from recipients.

Hello and Welcome to Rain Garden Quilts!

My quilts (and handknits) are one-of-a-kind, made from -- new! -- fabrics and yarns found at thrift shops, yard sales and in my stash. Thus are lost fabrics rescued from a horrible fate at the landfill and given new life in a beloved quilt.
