I find that I need to make things, everyday if possible. Making things is a way for me to process all the stimulus from the world, a practice of alchemy from all that's there.

I'm interested in the saying "Everything is Everything" like there are little parts of things that recombine all over the place in new and different ways, and that we all collude in this process - and when we are creative we are engaging in a kind of call and response with this phenomenon, Everything is Everything. Your sari is now my scarf, and your brother is my son's teacher, and that chair upholstery was gold, and covered in plastic, and now it looks like it came off a moonstruck steamboat in New Orleans. All things are changed by their relation-- just like words take meaning from each other, they slant and remix and under this relative pressure-- creative attention makes things do and mean new things.

And HATS! To back track a little...one reason I love felting is that it's a mutual process, like with clay or woodcarving, it helps to be sensitive to the material (in this case the wool) and allow the medium to inform and influence the piece (as opposed to merely imposing my self all over it - I try to work with it).

And HATS! When I listen their lovely humor speaks, and their character comes alive.

I really enjoy watching people before they try on a hat, and then their transformation once they put it on. Simply wearing a hat gives people a license to be a bit more performative, to have a bit more confidence and some healthy attitude.
