Historically-inspired garmentry for the new-fangled lady and gent for weddings, parties, galas, and the stunning everyday.
Beauty as refuge.
My best friend and I graduated at the same time, she in Sydney, Australia, and I in Amherst, Massachusetts. We both moved back to our hometown and looked at each other and thought, "What now?"
I graduated with a degree in dance, which I knew would be useless, but not...quite...this useless. What is an artist in a recession to do?
But Naomi had a plan. "Let's start Etsy shops together!" We thought, what the hell, we sew together all the time anyway, so we might as well put it online and see what happens. It felt just like when we were eight years old and decide to go exploring in the back yard. Run boldly into the unknown, green-kneed stockings notwithstanding.
Two and a half years later, I can't believe my luck. I'm awed that Etsy allows so many creative people, who don't always fit into the financial fabric of things, to be self-employed.
I sew from my studio in picturesque Brattleboro, Vermont. When I can't quite figure something out or a seam is being tricky, I take a break and go to the garden to rip out some weeds and let my mind wander. Somehow I get my best ideas when I'm outside and surrounded by the brilliant architecture of plants and animals. I want nothing more than to live a world where we are closer to the natural state of things, and I have ended up pursuing this dream from behind a sewing machine.
Somehow, it all makes sense.

Orders over $100 in value will be insured against being lost or damaged in the mail. This does not include situations in which the customer has accidentally provided an erroneous shipping address, so check your address carefully before placing an order!
For international orders, please leave at least two weeks for transit time. In addition, please be aware that your country may charge you additional customs fees. Ranunculus Market has no control over how much will be charged at customs. For additional information, consult your local post office.
Refunds and Exchanges
However, we will do absolutely everything in our power to make sure that you are satisfied with the finished garment. Exchanges can be made for a different size, and Ranunculus Market offers free alterations for most of our garments to ensure a proper fit. In the unusual case that a shipped garment is stained or damaged, it will be replaced at no cost. We are committed to making each item perfect for each customer.
Additional policies and FAQs
If you've never measured yourself before, don't worry, it's pretty straightforward.
You can use a tape measure if you have one or just a (non-stretch) piece of string or ribbon and match it up against a tape measure or ruler. Be as accurate as you can, but don't pull too tight.
Measure the circumference of each part as follows:
Bust: Fullest part of bust
Underbust: Right underneath the bust (bra band)
Natural waist: Narrowest part of waist, around the belly button
Low waist: Where pants usually hit
Hip: Around the fleshiest part of the backside.
XS= dress size 0/2, bust 30, under bust 28, natural waist 24, low waist 32, hip 36
S= dress size 2/4, bust 34, under bust 32, natural waist 28, low waist 34, hip 39
M= dress size 6/8, bust 38, under bust 34, natural waist 32, low waist 36, hip 42
L= dress size 10/12, bust 42, under bust 36, natural waist 35, low waist 38, hip 45
Choose the size that matches your body most closely, and always round up. If you fall substantially outside of these sizes, let me know and it is possible to custom-size the garment for a small additional fee.
Feel free to contact me with any questions.
Custom orders are welcome!
If you are interested in a custom fabric choice for a garment already in the shop, you can purchase our swatch service here:
For a garment tailored to your heart's desire, here's my usual process:
-We discuss the project. I give you an estimate, which totals up the expected cost of materials, labor, and a 20% custom surcharge. This is also a good time to let me know if the garment will be worn for a special event with a specific deadline.
-I will make you a custom listing for 50% of this estimated cost. Once it has been purchased, we can get down to the nitty gritty of design, color, and fabric choices. If you'd like to see and touch the fabric choices in person, you can buy my swatch service (https://www.etsy.com/listing/71570901/swatch-service) to have them mailed to your doorstep. Otherwise, pictures of fabrics will be discussed in convo form.
-Once we have decided on fabric and design, materials will be purchased and another custom listing will be made for the balance of the cost, adjusted for the price of the fabrics chosen.
-After the full balance is paid, construction will begin, and your garment will be meticulously crafted to your specifications. You can ask to have pictures sent of progress along the way.
-The final garment will be shipped as promptly as possible.
If the customer is not satisfied with the direction the commissioned project is taking, a partial refund of the initial deposit may be issued. In this case, the customer will be refunded whatever portion of the deposit has not been spent on materials for the order. No refunds will be issued after the full amount of the order is paid and work has begun. As stated above, Ranunculus Market does not accept returns, but alterations are always offered if the fit is not perfect the first time around. (If you are concerned about fit, another option is to add on my muslin service: https://www.etsy.com/listing/118389500/muslin-service?ref=shop_home_active.)
