These gemstones are sure to please my daughter. They are as advertised. It would have been helpful to me if they had some id on their packaging corresponding to the ones used on Etsy.

Welcome to Rare Earth Gems. I call this shop "Rare Earth" because that's exactly what I sell, precious and semi-precious stones, natural gems from the earth. I am lucky enough to be able to acquire these stones directly from the stone cutters of Gujarat Province, India, an area renowned for it's stone cutting for over 1,000 years. Because there is no middle man or secondary markup, I can offer high quality gems that are an excellent and lasting value at prices that are at or below wholesale.

I believe that as artists we put a lot of love and care into our work and we deserve the best quality. Our jewelry isn't mass produced in some factory, why should the stone we select, sometimes the very focal point of our piece, be synthetically produced in some lab? After all the work and effort put into your handmade item, why settle for mediocre when you can have the truly extraordinary?

ONLY NATURAL STONES
That's why all of the stones in my shop are natural. They come from every corner of the globe, Africa, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Burma, Australia, the United States and more. I don't sell any lab created or synthetic stones, or any of the low grade material typically found in jewelry supply shops. You'll find my stones bright, clear and full of color. There is a lot of material coming out of China these days that may be less costly, but it's also washed out or muddy in color. When you compare, I guarantee you'll see the difference.

MY STONES - FULLY DESCRIBED, CERTIFIED AND AUTHENTICATED
What you see is what you get. I don't use stock photographs. I photograph the actual stone or stones that you will receive.

I include all of the information about the stone, it's size, color, cut, clarity, hardness and weight. You'll also see where it originated from, and whether it's been enhanced or treated in any way. Most of the stones I sell aren't treated, but with some, treatment is necessary. Amethyst is typically heated. This not only improves color, but keeps it from fading over time. An untreated Amethyst will loose it's color if exposed to sunlight.

For stones valued at more than $1,000, a certified report from the the GIA, the Gemological Institute of America is available upon request. The GIA is the world's foremost authority on gemology and diamond and colored stone grading.

COLOR
All of my stones are photographed in natural light and I do my best to accurately describe the colors of each stone. However, some slight color variation is possible due to differences between browser display settings and computer monitors.

SIZE AND WEIGHT
Quite a few of the stones I sell are calibrated, which means they are all cut to size to fit standard jewelry settings. This is helpful to the artist because they can choose from a wide variety of stones to fit their piece. A typical stone that isn't calibrated would have measurements like this: 8.274 x 4.936mm and a setting would have to be custom made to fit it. All of my calibrated stones are cut to exacting measurements, like this: 8 x 4 mm, so you know whether it will fit your piece before you purchase it.

You don't need to be a professional jeweler to set these calibrated stones either because they are cut to fit standard sizes you can pop them into easy to use settings like Snap Tite and Bezellite brands. Look for stones marked "Calibrated" under size in my listings.

I do have free-sized stones as well, and their individual measurements will be listed to the closest 10th of a millimeter.

WEIGHT
It's best to order stones based on their dimensions rather than on their carat weight. As the density of each gem varies, so will their carat weight. For example, a one carat diamond will be a completely different size than a one carat Aquamarine. So make sure to order by size, not weight.

If you'd like any additional information about my stones, don't hesitate to ask. If you don't see a particular cut or stone you are looking for, let me know, I have a large inventory available.
