Announcement    We're sad to tell you that when we got back from Beltane in Albuquerque Karl got a cold and then Sarah followed suit and we're still recovering. So, things aren't going as quickly as they were earlier this season. However, good news is that we're feeling much better and looking forward to summer.

New to our site you will find brass and copper patens, as well as some new wands... and more are to come! Sarah's happy to announce we have a new design for Inanna's altar box as well!

Pricing- We're figuring out new pricing because of fluctuations in the wood prices and overall uncertainties in the industry. There are now a lot of fees and costs with Etsy we have to work into the equation, too. We promise we will try to keep things as consistent as possible, however, you will see some price changes as we both have to restock and need to adjust our calculations to fluctuations on the supply side.

Sarah can now create a drum made especially for you with your involvement using Zoom technology. Sarah's got a way to bring you in for the portion of the drum making where the drum is tied so you get to be a part of the process ! Let us know if that's something that tickles your fancy! We'd work out details in a direct conversation.

Let us know if you are interested in manifesting a metaphysical Power Tool of your personal design. We might be able to help in that process. Simply contact us directly!

A note on shipping- we do our best on our side and will help as able, and once we take it to the post it's mostly out of our hands.

International Shipping- We are sometimes willing to ship to countries other than what we've got listed but do want to have a conversation before accepting these orders, so if you're looking from another place around the world and our shop says it won't ship to us, please do send us a personal note and double check. We use the Etsy's Global Shipping, which uses USPS to a distribution center and then sends out via other carriers. The customs number comes to us on the tracking once it's left that distribution center and arrived in the destination country.

If you order from another country please check back on the tracking a couple days after getting the tracking number and see if you have your customs number. That's the one you will need to track it inside your country.

*AUSTRALIA* has some issues with imports sometimes, and other friends who are sellers are not shipping there due to major issues they had, but so far we've been good. We continue to ship to Australia.

*GERMANY* will be implementing a system of tracking how much packaging is used for shipping products from manufacturers and many Etsy shippers are starting to not ship to Germany because of the complicated process involved. We looked through the system and it seems that we are exempt from this need to have an account with their company that is managing this process. We will TRY. It may be that they will make it complicated and have to pay more fees but it seems like it's going to be ok. We want to support environmental responsibility, so ARE going to keep shipping to Germany for the time being and see how it goes.

Returns/Exchanges: International orders always pay shipping both ways on refunds or exchanges. A "full refund" for us is the full refund of the product's price, not shipping. There are ways we can get reimbursement for shipping via insurance if there is a lost or damaged item so always contact us if there are issues.

Errors in calculating shipping- Etsy's system doesn't always calculate the shipping correctly, especially on orders purchasing several items. It makes assumptions about packing into multiple boxes and may or may not have the correct weight for your box. Many times the system over estimates the cost we're finding. We promise we will send back any money (over $1) paid over the actual cost on our shipping when Etsy charges too much.

About RareEarthWoodworks

Sales 8,630
On Etsy since 2013

A little bit about us here at Rare Earth Designs...

Rare Earth Designs creates sacred art and tools from the Land Sanctuary of Karl Feret and Sarah Heartsong called Erosia. Erosia is 13 acres of Land situated at the base of the Olympic Peninsula in the rainy Pacific NW. Erosia will soon be a place where people can come to Land (with the capitalization denoting it's sacred) to camp and/or retreat and is organized as a Washington state religious nonprofit. Erosia is space to center in Nature with the possibility of creating Art and Tools with experts guiding/aiding in the process.

Rare Earth Design's current incarnation is a blending of the original spiritual woodwork business of Karl Feret with his partner Sarah Heartsong's art and services. Rare Earth was subsumed under the corporate umbrella of the company she's had since 2004, Heartsong Healing Arts, at the beginning of 2020 when they moved to the Land fulltime. Their partnership opened up an unique possibility to offer both sacred toolmaking and spiritual services, including the opportunity for others to manifest their Visioned Art/Tool with the support and guidance of professional priestly artisans who do this as their livelihoods.

So, who is Karl Feret? Well, Karl is originally from the Denver area, who moved to Washington state many years ago. Karl grew up working with woods, from building & repairing furniture with his father to the fabrication of custom homes. He was a stonemason & landscape designer by trade and a woodworker & metaphysical student/practitioner in everyday life. Eventually friends convinced Karl to share his skills beyond his personal circles so he started to sell his wares part time as a side job. He now works with the earth everyday, full time, both on physical and spiritual levels creating & designing sacred art & building our Land Sanctuary, Erosia.

Karl has more of a ceremonial, or "traditional" magic background than Sarah does. He was formally initiated into Wicca back when he lived in Denver. He continues to be drawn into esoteric western sources through rabbit holes now available all over online, learning all the time. Karl is an ordained priest and currently serves as the Speaker of the Land for the TOLIS (Tree of Life Interfaith Sanctuary), the naturecentric spiritual association Erosia is a part of.

Often when Karl researches the occult through ancient texts he finds obscure tools used by ceremonialists and mages. He recreates them and occasionally improves upon them. He's who designs and fabricates the boards, the runes, and the bigger boxes/cases. He turns the wands, pens, hair pins, wood "stones", and creates the TreeScents upon his lathe. Karl's always working on something new as his brain never stops creating!

Sarah is an ordained, nature-centered priestess who has served her communities in New Mexico & the Pacific NW spiritually both as a professional & volunteer all her life. Raised an active Methodist Christian, Sarah pivoted in 1992 when she had an epiphany about the plurality & genderfull Nature of the Divine. Sarah embraced Nature as the center of her Path then studied intensely to gain a BA degree in Religion specialized in comparative Religions & cultures around the globe. Especially interested in the spiritual traditions of indigenous peoples of the Earth with their Wisdom Ways, Sarah holds a MA in Communication Studies with intercultural communication as her focus.

Sarah is also a talented artist. She has a strong sense of design & abilities passed down to her from both sides of her family. Most often it will be Sarah that you will talk to as she's currently working not only as an artisan & main Sanctuary priestess, but as the office manager. Sarah is the Lady of the Land of Erosia, a business woman, a coach, a reader, a healer, a ceremonialist & often a teacher. Sarah designs and makes primarily the altar boxes, altar icons & drums.

Caring for the Land & the Earth is important to us at Rare Earth Designs. In the production of our art we reuse old things whenever possible, such as upcycling old wooden bowls to use as our hoops for the drums. We locally source our supplies of able and buying them from thrift stores as much as possible when creating our art. We use shellacs instead of petroleum based wood sealants and we make our own all-natural wood balm for polishing and sealing our wooden products.

This year we start 2022 again with a vision of adding a permanent shop building and camping spots to our 13 acres of wooded Land. Last year we had to halt plans when the price of lumber went through the roof making the funding harder. It seemed wiser to wait to see if prices fell. Hopefully we will build this year. We really want to make our own boxes in house & expand our ability to create larger items. That will free the yurt to become the indoor gathering & creating temple it's intended to be.

Please reach out if you are in need of a special tool, gift or a service we offer, & if you have any questions. We do custom work all the time!
Sarah & Karl

Frequently asked questions
Why didn't the 15% off code work for my order?

Our 15% off code for the friends of the shop is being phased out due to all the other fees we're being slammed with here on Etsy. Please visit our website and/or talk with us directly.

How do I use my ___? (fill in the blank)

While Sarah and Karl are both skilled and highly trained in the spiritual arts the specialty of this shop is the design and fabrication of your tool. We encourage you to join groups in social media and to research historic texts and online sources. We can sometimes steer you in directions that are helpful, but we are not set up to teach how to use the items we make. Sarah does offer a spiritual coaching service you might utilize- for more info please ask her directly about it.

What happens if you already shipped the item and I want to cancel it?

Sometimes it happens that the item is already made and in stock and ready to ship out. We do our best to ship things from the shop ASAP, so if you find you want to cancel and it's already shipped, please ship it back to us and we will cancel the order if you notify us within 24 hours post purchase. However, for us realistically to be able to catch an order for all cases we put 3 hours for cancellation in our policies section. Contact us ASAP and if it's not been shipped and is not a custom order we've already done work on, we will always do our best to refund your money.
