About ReadAloudPlays
Exceptional Reader's Theater for You and Your Students
I've been teaching the middle grades for nearly 30 years and writing plays for Scholastic publishers for more than 20. My work frequently appears in Storyworks and Scope, and I have three books in print through Scholastic Teaching Resources. Etsy represents a secondary market for all those plays. After they've appeared in a classroom magazine, I let them age for a year or so and then publish them on my website and sites like this one. That way my African-American history and Civil Rights plays can continue to inspire and instruct multiple generations of students. That way my often-quirky adaptions of classic short stories can continue to engage kids while building their reading fluency.
Because most of my plays have been previously published by Scholastic, they've been professionally vetted. It also pleases me to offer teachers full reproducible rights to my work. Once a teacher purchases a play for just three or four bucks, they're licensed to reprint a class set every year thereafter. That way maybe a great play like "Gonna Let it Shine" or "Freedom for the First Time" will remain part of the curriculum year after year.
