To comply with new GDPR laws, it is important that as an Etsy Seller, I am transparent on what data I handle and store, why it is needed, your rights, and all other bits and pieces involved.

YOUR DATA

Etsy is responsible for all of the data is handled and stored through the use of their website. However, as a seller I also have access to some of the data you submit as a shopper.

This includes information that you may submit as part of a purchase or Etsy account, that is needed to process an order.
Typically, every order you place through my shop will allow me to see your Name, Shipping Name and Address, Email Address. A Link to your Etsy public profile, your order history through my shop, along with any information you will have submitted through an Etsy Conversation, or in Buyer notes. This also includes any item Reviews.

I can only see the method of Payment, whether it was via Card or Paypal. Etsy does not show me specific sensitive payment credentials or card information at all. The protection of this data is handled by Etsy and covered by their Privacy Policies.

USE OF DATA

I only use your data as given to me through Etsy's Order & Conversation systems to process your Order and make sure you receive the correct items with any personalization options you have requested.

We use your shipping address to print address labels to make sure you get your parcel delivered to the correct location. This information is not shared with anyone but is of course handled by the relevant postal services involved. Your location will determine what postal services are involved, but from our end, we use Royal Mail unless a courier is requested. They require the addresses on the labels to process packages for posting. We also add your address to a printed Proof of Postage sheet provided by Royal Mail, that is stamped at the post office as extra proof of postage with the receipts. If you have ordered a large quantity of items then we may need to ship your order using a reputable courier. We will inform you of the courier selected and confirm that you are happy for us to use them to ship to your address. We only include your shipping information with both of these methods of delivery. In some cases, the shipping provider may require your email address to inform you of delivery information. This usually only applies to orders outside of the U.K.

STORAGE OF DATA

Etsy stores your data indefinitely but are not obligated to keep it forever. They would announce to both seller and buyer if for any reason stored data would be removed, reset or lost. You of course have the right the request removal or a copy of your data from Etsy and / or any seller when stored on there. Storing a history of orders with buyer information is useful to me as a seller for multiple reasons. For more recent orders, it helps to refer back to any order that may have had a query or problem with delivery. By finding a previous order on Etsy I can provide better customer service. Etsy also provides sellers with statistics based around but not limited to numbers of views, orders, revenue, location and where the shop was visited from, wether from an internal search, or via social media etc. Apart from specific favorited items, these stats are anonymous and locations are vague as to not pinpoint an exact location. Stats help me as a seller to analyse the success of my shop, the popularity of items, what users may be searching for, and ultimately how I can tweak and adjust to improve performance.

Outside of Etsy, I also receive email notifications from them to let me know a purchase has been made, that includes your order details. The same applies to conversations and any requests you may make through my shop. Some of these emails are stored on my email account but I often delete them as what they contain is normally just a notification to look at the same information / content visible on the seller dashboard. As mentioned in ‘USE OF DATA’ above, I also add your shipping details, including name, address & chosen method of delivery to a proof of postage form. This is essentially a list of recipients who have ordered from my shop, whose parcels will be dropped off and processed by the post office at the same day. They then stamp and sign this form, to confirm that everything on there has been posted, which provides me with additional insurance next to the standard receipts. It is the Post Office’s duty to honor confidentiality by respecting the privacy of information on these forms, but I do not share this information with anyone else but them as required. The form itself is handed back to me and I keep these in a physical folder for my records.

DISCLOSURE OF DATA
I cannot control the use of any information or data that you have chosen to share publicly through Etsy. however I will never share or disclose private information that I store administratively with anyone other than the Post Office as mentioned above, or any authority unless legally obligated to.


SECURITY OF DATA
The storage of data on Etsy itself is handled by their secure server and relevant payment gateways. I would advise looking into Etsy’s Privacy Policies to find out more information on how they secure your data. Any of your order or conversation data that may be stored on an email account is protected by the security provided with that email platform.

YOUR RIGHTS
You have the legal right to amend, correct or delete any information / data you have submitted through the use of this site. For data submitted outside of using my shop, you will have to contact Etsy or the relevant sellers involved. For my shop specifically, you can contact me to request to alter or remove data from my side such as an order or conversation, or request a copy of any of your data you may have submitted through use of my shop. In some cases I may need to verify your identity before doing this.

You may find external links on my shop that will send you to another site. I can only advise that you visit any external link at your own discretion as I cannot always control the content of these sites, or protect you under our own policies. If you find any link to be broken, inappropriate, or wish to know more about it before clicking it, then please contact me.

YOUR CONSENT
By submitting any information through the use of my Etsy shop you are consenting to the policies detailed on this page but have the right to withdraw consent at any time. *Important* You can only legally give consent if you are 13 years of age or older. Any data submitted by a person younger than this age will require the consent of a legal parent or guardian provided in writing. If you believe someone below this age has submitted data then you can inform me by contacting me through the shop. Any data submitted by a user below the age of consent will be deleted by legal obligation.

CHANGES TO OUR POLICY
I maintain the right to amend this policy at any time and may update it from time to time. Any changes made to this policy will be added to this page. The top of page will show the date of the latest policy.
