RedPeg Eco Studio offers Environmentally sustainable art to adorn the body and the earth.........Jewellery and sculpture all produced with minimal env

Hello, I'm Gabrielle McGrath.
Welcome to RedPeg Eco Studio.

My training is in sculpture. A graduate of the NAS in Sydney.
My focus for a long time was large constructed steel sculpture. Which I exhibited regionally and nationally for about 10 years.
Over time my circumstances changed and my work space became a lot smaller and as a result, so did my work.
I have never gained any formal training in Jewellery design, having taught myself with practice and application. Ive always been passionate about jewellery and body adornment, so it was no great leap between the two disciplines. To me, my jewellery designs are essentially mini sculptures.
My work is made with a sculptors eye, hand and thought process and therefor aesthetically are more of an artwork, constructed in the same fashion as a much larger piece.
My jewellery and wearble art is handcrafted with a naive tribal-like aesthetic, a long way from your "traditional" style jewellery. I construct my pieces with a lot of beating and forging of the metal. I like to find form and aesthetic through texture and pattern and quite often a mistake makes for a pleasant surprise.
Its not uncommon for people to stand outside my shopfront studio and watch while I bang and smash and hit and hammer away.

I love working with sterling silver and embrace the use of ethically sourced materials.
I’m dedicated to creating art with minimal environmental impact. I re-cycle up-cycle and salvage. Natural alternatives to chemicals are implemented in the cleaning, polishing and oxidizing processes. All of the silver used is recycled from commercial and industrial enterprises.

I live and work on the far south coast of NSW and have a small open studio and shop where I sell direct to the public.
I welcome commissions and love making custom specific works.

RedPeg offers wearers a conscious choice to support a sustainable art practice.
