Announcement   Jay Anderson is a professional designer with a penchant for travelling the world, where she delves deeply into the culture, colour and art/design of each place she visits. Back home in her studio, she collates her photos, ephemera and sketches into rich sources of inspiration.

After graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art with a first class honours degree in Printed Textiles, she cut her teeth as an in house designer for Nairn Floors as a floor covering designer. Moving on to work for Lawtex designing apparel, textile prints and tags and then to Babygro as a children's and women's wear designer responsible for an all company-wide design service, including graphics, fashion illustration and garment sample specifications for clients such as Marks & Spencer, Boots, Next, Debenhams, Mothercare, British Home Stores and Dunnes Stores.

Once she honed her skills and knowledge, she struck out on her own as a freelance designer offering a wide range of graphic, fabric and apparel design, illustration and branding services. She also worked as part of the Black Cherry Studio freelance designer team creating a wide range of future seasons fashion fabrics which were sold to buyers worldwide through international trade fairs such as Premier Vision in Paris, London, Italy, Australia and USA.

However she was determined to expand her horizons and went into teaching, gaining a degree in Further Education Teaching at Aberdeen University. Keen to invest in the new generation of artists and designers, she guided hundreds of students towards realising their own creative goals and ambitions. After 10 years of managing the Creative Arts Department at Scotland's third largest College, she decided to return to full time freelance work and spend time in developing a new body of her own work.

Jay loves working with a myriad of clients, enjoying tight deadlines and the eclectic nature of the work. Utilising her creative skill, she combines an extensive knowledge of 'Old School' hand based techniques with digital and new technologies to offer her clients unique, high quality work that has a more intimate feel and natural quality than designs created solely on the computer.

It took her several years to decide on a name for her business that was memorable and meant something to her. She decided upon the name Red Road Studio after a long and fraught brainstorming session on a wild bus trip to Glasgow. As she traced back her creative career, she realised that her first creative accomplishments began as child growing up in the house that she had been born in. That house is to be found on the Red Road in Glasgow.

You can find her now living in the Kingdom of Fife, Scotland where she moved to to take up her first design position as a floor covering designer for Nairn Floors and has stayed there ever since.

When she is not busy working in her studio, Jay enjoys finding new places to visit, scuba diving - though not as much as she would like, reading a good 'who done it' and spending time with her two equally creative daughters and her cherished partner. She is partial to a good wine and fine dining.

About

Artistic Services from 'red road studio'

My story is an ever changing one. At the moment I've decided to go full-time freelance offering artistic services in art, illustration, graphic design and printed textiles. My friend Tash would say I'm a generalist - I'm just lucky to have been given the opportunity to work in a variety of creative industries for over 15 years which is quite unique.

I feel like a frog in an ocean on Etsy. It's difficult to get established and gremlins of self doubt and uncertainty kick in every now and then but I will shake them off and persevere.

To find out more about me or see my other work I've included a few links below - please contact me if you have something in mind I can help with. I work on commissions too.

Thank you!! Jay

    Owner, Designer, Illustrator

Freelance designer and illustrator who loves the challenge of a design brief and a tight deadline - sad, I know! Worked in the design industry for over 15 years, learned to scuba dive in Scotland (brrrr) and a bit of a traveler.

Hello there and welcome to my Scottish studio - red road. I designed and produce everything by myself in a pet and smoke free home. My cards are hand printed by myself.

I'm also lucky enough to get asked for commissions so please feel free to contact me.

Accepted payment methods

  • Pay with Visa
  • Pay with Master Card
  • Pay with American Express
  • Pay with Discover
  • Pay with PayPal
Payment
I live in Scotland, United Kingdom so UK buyers are welcome to contact me to arrange to pay by another method. Etsy payment method for overseas buyers is to pay by paypal.
Shipping
I use first class or airmail to post my work. I always obtain proof of posting, but if you would like registered or recorded delivery for extra security, please ask. I usually post on the same day or the next day (except a Sunday) as I don't like to wait too long either if I buy something!

A wee note of caution to USA buyers - additional security measures by your Customs Officers can cause delays to *some* deliveries right now. This is outwith my control of course, and I have no way of knowing which parcels will get through quickly - or not. In most cases my work has got to the USA approx 7 - 10 days after posting.
Refunds and Exchanges
Change your mind about a purchase? I will refund the price if returned to me in the same condition it left and is resellable. The buyer will be responsible for the cost of postage.

I'm proud of the standard of my work so I hope a refund will never be necessary. I always obtain "proof of posting" to allow me to chase up missing packages, so please get in touch if you feel your delivery may have been mislaid.
Additional policies and FAQs
Custom orders are available - please contact me with any details and I'll do my very best to help!
