I felt soap and had been reading about Icelandic sheep, so I wanted some Icelandic roving to try out. The wool arrived quickly and is beautiful, soft, and felts very well.

Welcome to Red Tartan Woolies and thanks so much for stopping by!

We raise Icelandic sheep here on our small Ohio farm because they are beautiful, strong animals with a rich history. Icelandic sheep are a TRIPLE purpose breed kept for their wool, meat, and milk. Icelandic fleece is a primitive wool with a soft undercoat and a coarser topcoat. It can be spun together or is easily separated. A truly versatile fiber!

In our shop you'll, of course, find Icelandic fleeces and roving. We love sheep and natural fibers so much that we couldn't stop there, so don't be surprised to also find: handspun yarns, crocheted goodies (mittens, hats, scarves, etc.), milk soaps, vintage sheep skins upcycled into new and useful things and, oh, just anything having to do with sheep.

Some of our crocheted things may also be made of acrylic yarns manufactured from recycled plastics because some items like children's apparrel or toys need to be washed frequently and, hey, recycling is good!
