Getting started with coffee

Austin started experimenting with a small home roaster that only made 4 ounces at a time. As a stay-at-home dad during the day and worked weekend nights to make ends meet, he realized that he needed access to cheap but good coffee, and the quickest way from A to B was to roast himself. It was very inconsistent, but it was the start to a learning process.

Austin graduated from this roaster to a 1 lb roaster (that took 45 mins to roast), then a 3 lb roaster (that took at least an hour), to what he has now: a 3 kilo electric drum roaster. Still very small for a commercial roaster, but this way we can still maintain the small batches and keep the flavors of the origin in the bean very well.

Redbud Roasters is a family company. We do several area farmer's markets each week, with Mary and Austin each working markets with daughter Margot and son Aaron usually on hand. We have a lot of fun and converse with customers constantly. Best way to grow, bar none.
