Announcement   Hello all designers, recyclers and Breakfast at Tiffany's enthusiasts alike! I am introducing the Redux Tub, a project that I was inspired to take on after reading and seeing many examples of artists and designers reusing and recycling materials in profound and sustainable ways.

~Adaptive reuse has always been an intriguing facet of the design process. Progressive redesign and recycling efforts not only lessen the amount of materials ending up in landfills, but bring awareness to the design profession in a profound and holistic way. The life expectancy of a product can ultimately become circular in design through REDUX~

~The Redux Tub adapts these principles in a degree of sustainable efforts. The cushions are made up of 100% soy-based foam made right in Toronto while the fabrics range from natural blends such as Hemp to recycled Polyesters. The exterior paints vary in colours amidst Benjamin Moore’s Low/Zero VOC catalogue which meet very stringent “green” paint standards. Adopting natural materials for a design is one element but certainly not the only key player. Supporting Toronto’s local Upholstery and Foam services within walking and biking distance becomes an even greater part of the design equation; one that can resolve the problems of careless waste and minimizing our ecological footprint, all in the comfort of a cast iron bathtub~

~Additional original accessories can be added to a piece such as original brass plumbing fixtures, facets, drains and plumbing to authentically preserve it's 'tub like' appeal~

Currently I have (5) complete tubs ready for sale. Olive, Clementine, Alba, Ava and Scarlet! All have different cushions styles and fabrics. Each Redux Tub varies in price primarily due to the type of fabrics and quantity of cushions used. Please contact me for specific price details and/or for custom upholstery ideas and colours!

About

Modern Antiquity - The Life of an Upcycler

The ideas/concepts behind upcycling and re-purposing used objects stemmed for me throughout my undergraduate career as a landscape architecture student. I was surrounded by professionals and resources, which inspired me to focus my design philosophies towards the natural environment and designs which endure self-reliance and purpose to 'give back' during and after their expected lives.

During my undergrad I had a 'eureka' experience after watching the classic 1961 film Breakfast At Tiffany's where I discovered a beautiful and functional redesign of a antique clawfoot bathtub, which had been converted into a love seat for Holly Golightly's NYC apartment. This was a definitive turning point towards my desire to create custom furniture designs out of antique artifacts and give life back to something with a refreshing, functional and quality reuse.

The materials and design process boasts a holistic approach to my design framework and supporting local business and sustainable products ensures my finished projects are kept further away from landfills and closer to a lifestyle of continued comfort, quality and conversation.

Custom designs help challenge me with adopting unique building techniques and using a wide range of materials to suite the client's needs. Creating a rapport with the customer ensures my design philosophies can be maintained and expressed through every step of the products' life!

Greetings! My name is Eric Stewart and I am a Landscape Architect and upcycler based in Toronto, Ontario. When I am not busy designing landscapes, I find myself scouring them for artifacts to be re-purposed into functional, elegant works of art.
